This is aimed at kids whose parents may have held off of buying one because of fears about the 3D giving their kids headaches or messing up their eyes.
Also Im wondering if this is also Nintendo testing the waters for their 3DS successor. Its a non-clamshell design, 3DS games are relying far less on the dual screen setup compared to the original DS and now Nintendo has removed the 3D feature which is something they have been downplaying since the original price cut. If this thing is successful I can see Nintendo going back to a non-clamshell, single screen machine like the GBA.Kept you waiting, huh?

There's a market for this it's parents and this would be perfect for my 6 year old, if parents can cope with leapfrog and its leappad, leapster gs, leappad ultra, and leapster explorer I'm sure they can work this out.
The ds design has been plaged with children snapping or cracking the hinges i think having this as one solid unit is alining it with the fake kiddy iPad market, that leapfrog and vtech are pushing, and i bet nintendos lost sales to them squirrelling in on the kids games market, so this is there way of taking a few sales back.
I'm surprised they didn't just keep the screen as one and bundle a few more apps with it, like a big screen video app, a new mario paint and a few education apps, or web browser. It could of taken on the kiddy tablet then and actually made the thing difrent from the 3ds and give more of a reason to drop the 3d

or something? If so, it probably only recognises whether the console is in sleep mode or not, which this does allow you to do with a switch. Wouldn't be anywhere near as fun as actually doing it, but I think you could still complete the game, right?
EDIT: Nope, apparently that was Another Code: Two Memories. What did Hotel Dusk require?

It's a strange decision, but maybe it'll work out for them. It's certainly out of left field, I don't think anyone saw this coming. They've missed a few tricks though if you ask me - I would've made a pale blue version and a red version, and bundled them at $129 with Pok?mon X or Y as appropriate. A sort of girls' and boys' version.
That would also leave the door open to a future version with no game included at $99, or ?79 in the UK (?109 here for the Pok?mon bundle edition). I always feel like Nintendo never fully commit to the price drop with their systems. The Wii Mini in particular was just way too expensive, it could've been a showstopper even without internet access if it had released at ?59.
It wouldn't surprise me if they went flat/single screen for their next system. I've not really played a 3DS game that's made any sort of meaningful use of what I refer to as 'the map screen'. That's not to say there aren't any out there, but I don't think it's as big a deal as it was for the original DS.

It could be fine and work with the pre-existing games without a problem, however if the functional has had any sort of code change to allow this then. The game could also not recognise the new sleep mode or worse yet crash.
Case and point some versions of the PS2 weren't compatible with some PS2 game due to the internal changes made to the hardware.
So this really is a case of wait and see. So first Borderdown member to get a 2DS needs to let us know if you can finish Hotel Dusk, Last Window & Another Memories or not.
