Good grief that thing is UGLY...

Although it does amusingly look similar to some kind of mutant double screen Game & Watch...

Not Hotel Dusk but Last Window, one of the final puzzles requires

to almost close the DS (just before it would enter sleep mode)

      to solve it.
IIRC Hotel Dusk doesn't have this kind of puzzles.

Anyway, after the trailer I was unsure if the console was real or not, a trip here and it was confirmed...WTF, Nintendo, WTF.

Speechless so all I can do is post a silky smooth Genesis video so we can all chill out and take in the enormity of how crap that console looks.

I'm just impressed that Nintendo have decided to cut out the middle man and make their own **** Chinese knock offs of their own hardware. Time saving.

This will also be aimed at kids and it needs to fold over like all of the other DS' or the screen will get scratched.

If it folds over and has a decent price I can see their point in releasing this because everyone doesn't use 3D, but as it stands it's crap. It will flop like the GB Micro.

Hardly fair calling the GB Micro a flop. It was abandoned immediately and not given the slightest chance. The Micro is an awesome piece of kit and the handiest little handheld there is. By comparison, this thing is a monstrosity.

Yeah not dissing the Micro I loved it. It just didn't sell that many, mainly due to it releasing too late and selling next to the DS.

Just this morning, I was thinking that Nintendo need to spend their time developing more consoles rather than making games on their existing ones.

Just before Christmas too. Fabulous. My weekends, from now on:

"Yes, you can play DS games on your 3DS. Yes, you can play DS games on your 2DS too. No, you can't play 3DS games on your DS. No, there's no such thing as a 2DS game. Yes, you can play 3DS games on your 2DS."

Luckily, the 2DS looks hefty enough to club a tourist to death with one.

I thought it was a joke when it was first announced but it looks pretty cool in the video and the hands on impressions seem to be positive. I have a 3DS XL already so theres no need for me to get one but then its not aimed for people like us in the first place. This is aimed at kids whose parents may have held off of buying one because of fears about the 3D giving their kids headaches or messing up their eyes.

Also Im wondering if this is also Nintendo testing the waters for their 3DS successor. Its a non-clamshell design, 3DS games are relying far less on the dual screen setup compared to the original DS and now Nintendo has removed the 3D feature which is something they have been downplaying since the original price cut. If this thing is successful I can see Nintendo going back to a non-clamshell, single screen machine like the GBA.

I like this. I like this a lot. All hail the 2DS!

Not sarcastic, I genuinely long for the simplicity of the GBA in a modern format. Not to say I don't enjoy DS games with two screens, but I don't feel the 3DS does them as well since they are no longer equally-sized / devs don't seem to like dual-screen gameplay anymore. I can't think of any 3DS game that works in the same vein as TWEWY.

Still working there on weekends to cover my rent while I'm job hunting. I graduated last month, so hoping that I'll have a normal Christmas this year.

Zelda on the DS also required closing the console to imprint a section of map. That's out the window then.
