Kinda tempted by the newer PCH-2000 model but there's just nothing that screams must-play on Vita, imho.

Tbh, I'm kinda surprised that Sony perserved with handheld consoles. Part of me thought that they might've called it a day after the PSP seeing as the hype for that died out somewhat towards the end.

IIRC, PSP shifted units but haemorraghed money for ages (SCE made losses on it for a long time during its life, no?) and the "kindest" thing that I can say about UMD is that it pretty much became the new MiniDisc. And the less said about PSPGo the better.

All that without mentioning the obvious fact that it was completely steamrolled by the Nintendo DS juggernaut.

So it wasn't quite the success it could've/should've been.

PS: I say all of that as someone who was a day one import early adopter of a PSP-1000 (RIP Lik-Sang).

It's the most successful non-Nintendo handheld by absolute miles. Considering it has sold in equal numbers as PS3, I don't think it could be considered anything other than a success personally, especially as it was Sony's first attempt at a handheld. It was also the highest selling console in Japan in 2008, 2009 and 2010. That's probably largely due to Monster Hunter, but regardless. Japan is where handheld sales matter most. It's home to some true classics too.

For instance, I remember reading a while back the sales of PSP may be good but that was more down to CFW than anything else. Attach rates were apparently quite low and the machine wasn't regarded a success as other similar selling consoles.

It actually fits in roughly with your posts in this thread. Rather than cause needless arguments like we have had in the past, I simply choose to reply in a civil manner.
