I wonder how the DS games are going to work on Wii U? Sounds a bit weird. Surely they can't put them on TV, they'll look like crap on a big screen like that, but then again the pad has only one screen.

I'd again like to know who thought this was a good idea. It just seems like yet another empty bone where one DS game will get released every few months, if they bother to implement it this side of the decade anyway.
Sort yourselves out Nintendo.

Most DS titles are already fairly easy to come by and isn't the whole idea of the VC to allow much easier access to more obscure games and systems? What about Neo Geo or PC Engine that only need swapped over to the more recent service?
Surely it would make more sense to add other consoles? Didn't they promise GBA in a few promotional videos before the WII U was even launched?

Working for free i think he needs to go
I agree Rather than the same old snes and nes games how about adding some GAMECUBE, and N64 stuff to the wiiu virtual console. It would make a hell of a lot more sense than DS games, but hey what do i know. I doubt paying ?10+ for some DS games is gonna do much for Wiiu sales. adding value to it and making it an interesting second console would make me more interested in turning it on once in a while.
A few adverts on ios are not gonna do much, so if this is the best they can come up with I'm seriously considering getting out now and whacking this brick on Ebay. i've got nothing to look forward too, Smash brothers, Mario Kart and Donkey Kong have never been series I've followed the vague hope of a new Zelda is the only thing keeping me here.

Which leads to this.......

From a business perspective though, I can't see that there's space for a console similar to PS and Xbox. They've already saturated that market with two very similar products. You mention that the average gamer these days wants to play CoD and FIFA, not Mario and Pilotwings. I think that's true and I don't think Nintendo's first party games would be enough of a USP to these people - not to mention how poorly their online gaming would compare after MS and Sony's huge amount of experience in this area.
Where Nintendo have found real success since 2000 (early 90s type success, when they dominated) is with innovative ideas that pull in a whole bunch of people who probably wouldn't buy an Xbox or a PS. As difficult as it is I think that's what Nintendo need to do again in order to be as successful as they can. They'll always have the hardcore along for the ride too thanks to their great core franchises.
Obviously, that is what they tried to do with the Wii U. They just effed it up royally. They'll be having another bash though I'm sure.
Which is so true. It is a real shame that it is true, but it is.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed new development plans for smart devices designed to increase consumer awar…
Nintendo fleshes out its smartphone plans, sounds like its more along the lines of what Sony has with PSN where you can access and manage your account on any device, use the store without needing your console etc

"it says "Nintendo's next big Wii U game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze lacks any kind of GamePad functionality when playing the game on your TV."
