Yes quick start is very nice and a great improvement.

Japan sales figures are in, over 325,000 copies of MK8 sold and Wii U topping hardware sales charts

It is rather quick. Not quite NeoGeo AES levels of quickness but what is?

Jaz, I sent a rather frustrated SMS to my landlord this morning requesting an upgrade to 30mb fibre. He said he'd ask the landlady (who wears the pants) so we'll see what she says. If it's a no-go she'll just have to get used to sitting on the current router's MAC filter. MUAHAHAHAHAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA!!!11

could this increase in user base, actually encourage more companies to make games for it?

A smart developer would have had something really tasty , ready to go on the back of MK8....

        or..is it too far gone?

For third parties I'd say definitely too far gone. They'd want to see sustained sales after Mario Kart and then you'd have a 2+ year dev cycle for any project which would already push it towards Nintendo's next console. Even then, the Wii sold bucketloads and they still jumped ship. Needs an entirely new approach from Nintendo for them to come back.

What this should teach Ninty though is to get the next Mario Kart straight into development now and use it as a launch title for the next console. They are nowhere near aggressive enough at launches and MK would be no ends of useful

I have to say I was always impressed with the GameCube load times given it was CD based console . Also it should be noted that consoles like the XBox One have a quick start if you knock the machines off when playing a game. Swicth the consoles on and you can go straight back into game .

I love my new Wii U. It's like one of the family. Gonna get one of those professional family photos with it done. All of us on a white fluffy rug.

They are so tight with cash it just isn't funny. Quick example:

Guy I know had a supermarket space that he rented at 40k a month.
                Dude offers him 38k.
                He refuses.
No rent for 3 months (114k lost)
                Finally signs at 40k.
                Me - You lost 114k??
                Him - I won.

                Conclusion - Rich. Moron.

Principles over cash. Not often you hear about that these days.

Yeah, you need to see several successful third-party titles before things "open up" in terms of other developers putting their money down.

That's kinda the opposite of what happened for the Wii. There were some successes, mainly by Nintendo themselves, and developers waded in, but then there were high profile failures. The one that I always remember was Red Steel 2, which wasn't the best game ever by any stretch, but was fun, novel and looked good for the platform. It failed pretty spectacularly and Ubisoft recoiled from the Wii, pulling any titles that weren't stuff like Just Dance.

The bigger problem is the difference in hardware. If you develop a WiiU title now (following the XBO/PS4 release) it pretty much has to be exclusive. It's not like back in the GameCube era when the PS2/Xbox/GC had some measure of similarity in performance and capabilities.

How many WiiU's has Nintendo sold, in total?

EDIT: That being said, I'd love to see Nintendo break out of E3 with two-dozen games, 10 or so first-party and 10 or so third-party. I just can't see it happening.

With the sales from the Mario kart bundle about 7 mill consoles worldwide probably. Maybe less.

2 dozen games? Haha absolutely no chance. I'd be surprised if there will be any new games announced at all by Nintendo. You can expect a few teases for games you already knew about with no release dates again.

where is the code to register your wii u in club nintendo?

                        Comment

There isn't a code in the box. IIRC you need to link the system to Club Nintendo via the Settings/eShop to get your 1000 stars.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I can't see them doing it.

For me, a console needs to have about a dozen games I'm particularly interested in before I buy it. I don't count indie or arcade titles in that number unless they're something very special (as usually I play titles like that on Steam). I just mean proper AAA games. They don't all have to be out now, but they need to be on the way.

I kinda hate that I don't have a WiiU, as I'm such a big Nintendo fan, but I had hoped with 3D World on the horizon, the WiiU might have got the kick up the arse in terms of releases that the 3DS got around the time of 3D Land, and that just doesn't seem to be happening.

Right now the only games on the machine I'm interested in are Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D World (and I already have a 3DS with 3D Land), with Smash Brothers getting a 3DS release I can sidestep that too.

This is the polar opposite to the first year of the N64 or even the GameCube.

Part of me really wants their E3 to be Reggie on camera, saying "IS YOUR BODY READY" before a trailer, 30 minutes long with several minutes of game footage plays consecutively for a load of games. New Zelda! Starfox! An exclusive Resident Evil! A Mario 64 sequel/remake! F-Zero Infinite Velocity! More footage of X! Several new IPs! A new Metroid Prime-esque game! A new Nights which isn't like the ****ty Wii one! Then Reggie drops the mic and walks off.

Plus 114k to him is like 1 dollar to me.
