To be fair with steam you can pretty much publish whatever type of game you want. I'm referring to commercial shelf space becoming nothing but shooters, cod and generic racers.
The indi scene is doing well, and people are benefiting from it without a doubt, which is great, but it's still small numbers really in the grand scheme. Don't get me wrong I'm all for diversity so support indi games if there good.
Edit. @ dvdx, I don't get it? Must be my old age.

Indie games are for hipsters. I've not played a single good indie game, ever, apart from maybe World of Goo, and Aztez. As if something like Gone Home can ever be compared to the likes of Smash, or Captain Toad, or even NES Remix FFS!
Destiny? Come on, don't make me laugh. What does that do that's new? It's a generic FPS with carrot-on-a-stick raid encounters. And your critics didn't like it either, so there!
Did anyone play Titanfall after week 2?Last edited by dataDave; 10-03-2015, 13:55.

if we want to get petty dave super Mario 3d world, is super mario 3d land without the 3d gimic and with cats, do cats = originality now. As much as i enjoyed captain toad it is nintendo at its worst, stretching a mini side quest level into a full but rather short retail release, this should of been a wii u download only title at most.
Nintendo are the kings of the call of duty rehash method, its why we have 8 mario kart's and a million different "New" super mario brothers games.Last edited by Lebowski; 10-03-2015, 14:17.

Plus there's a bit of difference in the quality control between Ninty and activision.

I think the thread is derailing somewhat. I've enjoyed some indie games, Shovel Knight, Limbo, Journey and Fez come to mind.
Nintendo has some great games, but I agree with Team Andromeda somewhat, in that Nintendo's output isn't exactly mind blowingly fresh either. They produce similar games just space them out more Smash Bros Brawl -> Smash Bros U, it's not really any different to Modern Warfare -> Advanced Warfare for example.
But my point really is just I like a mix of everything, Mario, CoD, Fifa and Uncharted for example is a nice mix of games for me, and realistically I've played them all before in a previous iteration.
With regard to Yoshi's Yarn, if I hadn't come off the back of Mario 3D World, Tropical Freeze recently, I might be more interested in it... As it stands I've had my fill of platformers for a little while.

I think there's a possibility Zelda won't even come out on the Wii U, and may end up a launch title for a different system. We also have such little information on Starfox that for all we know if could be a mini game in something else. I think using it as something to look forward too is a little too soon - at least until nintendo say otherwise.
I agree there's not a lot on the horizon to look forward too on the current gen consoles barring one or two- but the diffrence is you know they will be there- whether it from 1st party releases, 3rd parties, or indie. They've only really been about just over a year. I think people have bought the consoles with an expectation of this, and knowing you have to wait, but they will come.
Nintendo have had that period, and the Wii U is coming to what seems to be the end of it's lifespan, and potentially doesn't have a lot on the horizon. A shame really, because more 3rd party stuff like Zombi U that could only have been done on the gamepad would have filled the gaps nicely. I think it all stems back to the lack of 3rd party support.
I find it a bit hypocritical to complain about updates of games when Nintendo do the very same thing. Same franchises on each system- is there a lot of difference between Smash GC/Wii/Wii U that doesn't make them incremental updates? The same for other franchises. However good it may be 3D world is a rehash of 3D land without the hook that the other titles had to differenciate the titles.
I agree that you are now starting to see differences in modern titles- the integration of online, melding social aspects etc is something that hasn't been done before, and is this generations "thing"- I applaud that new things are being done with them- things like Destiny couldn't have been done before - even if it's not to your taste. It's not for me, but I can appreciate things like that and Driveclub where the game "world" is constantly linked in to what everyone else is doing.
Where are you seeing that kind of new approach and innovation to titles from Nintendo?Last edited by MrKirov; 10-03-2015, 15:00.

I love the NES Remix Games and Super Luigi Brothers (on NES Remix 2) is a blast after a couple of drinks.
Can't wait for Mario Maker. I'm quite new with my Wii U but I love it. Bayo 2 was Fantastic.
Super Mario 3d World, whilst maybe not as good as galaxy 2, If it makes sense, its still a genuine 10/10 in my book.
Captain Toad to be bought on my 40th next week. Good times ahead, and if a Zelda is about in any form at E3, I'll have more genuine excitement. Call Of Duty 2 Was a 360 launch title and that was amazing, and I don't think there has a been a better one since, I don't care for all that sheep of duty following when there are much better games out there, on modern systems aside from a Nintendo system.
