I wouldn't be swayed by Beat Saber on PS5 unless I hadn't already played it, the DLC support isn't that amazing and waiting for something to come along that's actually likeable doubles the pain. The custom map aspect is actually pretty essential for longevity with it which is such a shame for a game that is otherwise a VR poster child. It should also just be a patch for the existing version, not a new release.

It's still a decent game without mods and the DLC has increased over time (assuming it's all available on PS5) if you're playing it casually, but it'll depend on the cost. If it's £70, then absolutely not.

Pretty much anyone who's playing Beat Saber at an Expert/Expert+ level is doing so with a modded game. The best maps IMO are custom content (such as Gangnam Style, Shake It Off, Beat It, Lone Digger, Supernova, Sandstorm, Pump It, and my fav Dystopia). You're not getting these without modding the game.

You enjoy your gimped game then - the custom maps are definitely not for everyone as it takes a bit of skill to be able to get thru them compared to the base maps

Its the same one as yours the PC Steam version, gimps of the world unite!!!

The 80s classic The Only Way Is Up by Yazz will be getting loaded into it next time i play, or something equally as terrible.

I would try Sandstorm and Supernova first - they can be completed on expert with a 100% clearance with a bit of practice. Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire is another really fun one I'd forgotten about until I was looking thru the scoreboards.

It's worth installing the additional stats mod & custom leaderboards. No fail is worth it for practice runs.

Hmm, I've dropped to 48th on Dystopia, I was at 18 at one point, haven't been able to beat that score I set a year ago tho.

I am looking forward to trying the useless, gimped base game as I’ve not had the chance to play it before love a rhythm game in general, too.

Never said it was useless, it's a decent game - but 90% of the potential content of Beat Saber is not available to you without the custom maps and mods functionality. I liked the game so much that I bought it twice; originally on Quest and when I'd reached the limits of the controller input, it was a strong factor in me stumping up for a Valve Index and purchasing it on Steam too.

When it was originally released there were only 10 tracks - more were added for free over the last three and a bit years (IIRC there are about 35ish now), but stuff you'll care about is paid-for DLC (on PC there are 144 at £1.69 a track, or as DLC packs). If it's priced at £30 like the PS4 version, then I'd say that's perfectly reasonable, but I suspect Sony will bump the price up for PS5.

Not surprised - I follow a lot of reviewers, tech people, YouTubers etc. in the VR space and the response has been pretty universally positive.

Many have called out the "facial haptics" feature, which is something entirely new, as being fantastic.

As much as I've sidelined PSVR2 for now it would be interesting to try - genuinely - I think it'll be the last notable consumer advancement in VR we'll see from this wider attempt at making VR work

The headband has force feedback. So if you're, say, in a game and there's an explosion, as the shockwave passes you, the headband can jolt/rumble, a bit like the Switch JoyCons.

The facial feedback stuff could be interesting for sports games (imagine a boxing game!)
