Yep, dpad is fine outside of not being as good as the SNES era one
I mean, the joycons ones by comparison...

Is it up to the standard of past Nintendo D-Pads? It is perhaps placed wrongly on the Pro Controller? I accept that those questions can debated.

      Functionally speaking though, it's fine.
This is a heavily contested issue though.

I know a lot of people find it fine, some people claim it's just to do with the way you move your thumb across it, but all I know is I have issues with the diagonal ups, especially up-right. It isn't really a problem with slower firm presses, it's those little taps that I do all the time when playing shmups, especially a bullet hell game. A lot of the time (we're talking several times a level) it registers as up. This isn't an issue I have with any other premium controller, so there's something different about the Pro Controller which is why it wouldn't be my recommendation.

Edit: It is better than the Joycons though!

I quite like how the Xbox series dpad feels but I hate how loud it is. The Xbox one dpad is quiet as a mouse and I use it whenever I play Tetris Connected. I recently ordered some Xbox one dpad membranes to see if I can transplant one into my Series S controller now that it’s out of warranty.

I’m still trying to find suitable membranes for my SFC pads. I’ve tried three different suppliers now and they’re all garbage. Specifically they require obscene amounts of force to register diagonals. And yes, I’ve tried all the ‘hacks’.

I think it’s going to be easier ordering some grimy old controllers for transplanting the OEMs.

I'm buying three (3!!) full-price, first party Nintendo Switch games in the first half of the year?!

            WHAT MADNESS IS THIS?!!!??!

Best thing about the pro controller, battery life. Haven’t played the Switch in over a year and who knows when the pro was last charged, 27hrs of Poke Arceus and it only just ran out, amazing stuff.

I wouldn't use a Pro for Tetris 99 due to the d-pad, I play in handheld mode. Otherwise, Pro all the way. All. Teh. Way.

Yep, they're pretty good. They're big and are nicely curved. Buttons and sticks are decent for the price. They feel light because they're big and thus mainly filled with air. Unfortunately the right stick on mine died after not much use and it was out of warranty.

Another thing you could try are the big clip on plastic shells that give you more to hold on to but still use the joycons.

I have complicated feelings about playing Tetris 99 in docked mode in general. Can't get along with the lag at all but that might well just be my TV.

EDIT: Actually...just realised that your point is a fair one and pretty much in line with what I'm saying.

                      Fair enough.

Thanks for the impressions! Glad to hear you liked it but concerning that the right stick died on yours. It's a shame that stick drift is so prevelant on the offical joy cons and then you hear the issues you had with your HORI and you wonder if the controllers are cursed!

                          Gentlemen, start your rumour engines!
The upcoming Switch Sports mentions AMD's FidelityFX in its EULA.
As a reminder, FidelityFX is AMD's answer to nVidia DLSS, but where DLSS requires modern nVidia GPUs to run (due to it being based on machine learning), FidelityFX is a library of shaders that can run on anything.

It's all a misunderstanding and they're actually getting ready to port the Suda51 classic, Flower, Sun and Rain.

Odd game for that to come up with. If it can run on anything then that would lean me more into the current Switch is going nowhere territory

Makes a great testbed, though. It has that simple, clean look that some Nintendo titles have - Splatoon, ARMS, Animal Crossing.
