That ssd is there basically for Sony to use as headroom as the gen goes on, multiplats as usual wont bother as they wont spend the resources to utilise it. Same old on that front.

Multiplatform games can't use it unless they get the increase """for free""" as they can't guarantee every player will have a fast SSD since they'll be on other platforms. They can't create a unique feature around it as it will mean it can't be multiplatform. Depending on your game engine and how you've built the world etc, you might just get a brute force improvement. Our game has a long initial load on Switch (30 seconds+ I think) as we load in most of the open world at the beginning of the game to make streaming easier during play. On *platform we haven't announced yet* that dropped to about 1.8 seconds with no extra work from us. This is because we're not using high res textures, assets share a lot of textures, the world meshes are low poly, we don't use normal maps and all of the lighting is real time. It's a very light game to load and since we're on Unreal, we saw a huge SSD benefit immediately but this isn't true of all games.

My best advice to anyone still hunting for one is to follow the twitter trackers and switch on notifications.
I did that for the PS5 and snagged two from Argos. Makes it far less painful...
For Xbox I've always bought direct from MS but mainly because you can use rewards and gift cards to lower the price.

I grabbed that earlier - if it's the only thing you're getting, you'll pay an extra £4 (minimum basket total charge) and delivery in either case, though that's still a steep discount - I rearranged my Christmas food shop to be delivered earlier so I could make the 29th November end of deal cutoff.
Speaking of discounts, the PlayStation Black Friday sale starts tomorrow: https://blog.playstation.com/2021/11...ay-deals-2021/
