The actual structure of the game is resolutely PS2 in nature. And the much vaunted rifts hardly came into it.

I hate to be that guy, but here's a link to a bloke from Traveller's Tales saying this could easily have been done on older hardware:

And even the bloke who directed it said '“You could make a game like [the new] ‘Ratchet & Clank’ on the PS4, but just visually speaking, you would have to dial back a ton in order to get it to run.” (which is in the article above).

It's not my thing anyway, but I appreciate I'm in a minority and others liked the game. But the stuff about it being this super next gen game that couldn't be done on previous systems was always nonsense.

This already exists though, it's just called PC! [/INDENT]

That guy from travellers tales was talking utter crap, you scale everything back and its not the same game, so no it can't be done on old hardware, this is just a fact, and you absolutely can't run the game on an hdd, so lets just move past this now.

No need to get shirty, I’m just giving my opinion. If you scaled the graphics and effects back for me it would totally be the same game, as it was quite old school in structure with small environments (not necessarily a bad thing in itself, incidentally).

I’m happy to leave it there as you suggest though, and we can agree to disagree.

I agree the guy commenting on it being possible on old hardware was just looking for a headline but regardless I'm sure this will run and scale across slower storage on PC just fine.

The PS5 SSD is blisteringly fast no doubt but the whole commentary about R&C only being possible on that hardware was equally just a headline grab of equal measure

Devolver goes public and Sony acquires a 5% stake in them but they're remaining independent

I don't remember anyone saying it was only possible on PS5, they did say that the game wouldn't be possible on previous gen hardware. When Mark Cerny showed off the ps5 spec he made a big deal about the new SSD tech and used Rachet and Clank as an example of how a super fast ssd can support and bring new experiences to games. in previous gens to bring in an entirely new environment would require corridors to mask loading or a sustained pause in gameplay, He used Ratchet and clank to show that you could approach level design in a completely different way thanks to the ssd tech, no pauses, no corridors, just seamless transitions between massive environments on the fly.

A debug menu has been accessed on the ps5 setting screen. No idea how or what's in there and Sony will probably very quickly shut the door. Nothing I like more than a good debug menu though.

Sony has launched the PlayStation Direct store in the UK giving you an additional avenue to discover PS5 is out of stock

What happens next really depends on what/how has been unlocked. This could be like the Vita where you need to keep a certain firmware and then "virtually" load and unload new firmwares to play newer games or a consistent way to break through firmwares. Probably hackers are withholding information to see how Sony will reach to this announcement.

I'm shocked this has happened in just a year. Sony can of course patch and update but there's damage done there already if they have direct access to look at everything under the current firmware.

I think the most surprising thing is this vulnerability was exposed just through software. No hardware exploits at all.

I just got an email from Sony and they've finally opened a direct store for PS5 and accessories. About time but great move and hopefully this will start to put an end to scalpers.

Yeah but hopefully they'll offer a ticketing system based your PS plus credentials and offer a proper queue devoid of scalping.

What neon said. Implement a ticket system based on active psn/live membership or don’t bother. So many hungry fans on both sides just looking at “out of stock” signs on websites they’re just going to assume next gen never launched.

Yeah, Gamespot reporting the same: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/fi.../1100-6497931/

Not good news for those hoping to get an already difficult to find product for Christmas. Can only push the scalper prices up :/
