Looks like they're putting out their games on PC with a 12 month delay then going forward.

How on earth will Ratchet and Clank work without the magical power of the SSD?!!?!*

I've noticed Gran Turismo youtube has been putting out videos on the games for the last couple of weeks. Am I the only one wondering if there will be a GT7 Prologue?

Gen 4 nvme drives were PC drives first and foremost, and it was always the plan to have off the shelf drives that matched the spec of the on board storage for expansion, so huu what

Yep, it's early for it. Only reason I can think is Sony wanting to keep attention on the game over the Xmas period in light of FH5's release and the lack of a AAA PS5 title hitting now.

I bet it works off any storage though.

its been shown to as work on slower drives' yup, I don't think anyone was under the impression that a gen one game on a new system would be using that system to its full potential, When Mark Cerny showed of ratchet and clank he did so to show that using high speed ssds facilitated seamless loading of assets, when you think last gen machines where still using mechanical drives this was a big leap forward for console gamers a leap that most PC Users have been enjoying for quite some time.

I'm just messing about really. There was a hell of a lot of hype over how this game supposedly couldn't be done without the SSD pre-release though. The reality was somewhat different. I was quite disappointed. More fool me for buying into it though.

But you couldn’t run the game without an SSD, would it run on a gen3 ssd? Probably if its quick enough, but hdd is obviously a no.

Why are we even still talking about HDDs? It's almost 2022.

For context, I was playing Diablo III and Skyrim from an SSD in 2012. On my laptop.

The way these twats drip-feed this stuff should be condemned, not celebrated. People think Nintendo are years behind when it comes to hardware when in fact it's the entire console space.

There should be an option to pay twice to three times as much for a genuinely modern PS or Xbox variant. So, put the Pro version out day one and save us having to eventually buy two consoles anyway. I mean, two if you're lucky enough to not have your first one break down on you.

Manufacturing costs and RRP brackets to hit thats why, you can't build a PC that will play PS5/SeriesX games (with gen 4 ssd's as well in them) for the same price point, even building yourself and waiting for the very cheapest prices on every component. Thats not even taking into account that the PS5 is already profitable as hardware. Scale of a standardised manufactured item over do it yourself best of at any cost.

Hopefully hdd's are dead forever now though.

Having played the game though, I just don't think that's true. There really isn't anything in it that I thought was particularly next gen (beyond the character models, which are mind bogglingly detailed and sharp - but these could have been done on older machines, just with less impressive graphics).

The actual structure of the game is resolutely PS2 in nature. And the much vaunted rifts hardly came into it.

I hate to be that guy, but here's a link to a bloke from Traveller's Tales saying this could easily have been done on older hardware:

And even the bloke who directed it said '“You could make a game like [the new] ‘Ratchet & Clank’ on the PS4, but just visually speaking, you would have to dial back a ton in order to get it to run.” (which is in the article above).

It's not my thing anyway, but I appreciate I'm in a minority and others liked the game. But the stuff about it being this super next gen game that couldn't be done on previous systems was always nonsense.

This already exists though, it's just called PC!

At present Just to get a graphics card that matches the PS5/Xbox Series X spec would cost you around £1000, that's before you factor in the ssd the processor the Mother board, the psu, the cooling, the cabling, and a case. its why consoles are so popular in the gaming space, so get out of here with your pc masterrace bull****

As for trying to keep up i seriously doubt Sony or Microsoft would ever go down the route of putting out a system that matches the RTX 3090 and they don't need too having a 2 and a half grand graphics card in your pc is not at the same stage of mass adoption on the scale of games consoles and never will be.

Yeah, the only reason games exist that even begin to take advantage of hardware like a 3090 is because of consoles. If the entry point to videogames was a £2500 PC then the market for them would be tiny and no one would invest £100m in developing a game.
