Yeah that's great news. Looking forward to trying out the new highest tier of PS Plus when it arrives.

VRR is there if you restart the console. They don't tell you that.
I can also confirm that Sony have half arsed it and don't support Freesync... You know, that thing that Xbox has supported for over a decade.

This is really odd seeing as its all AMD on the board and it should be a given that AMD cpu’s & gpu’s support it.

Don’t get your hopes up, this could be simple code preservation for internal use and making sure the code for each game isn’t lost like Sega used to do, rather than a BC team.

VRR is in the options of the console but it says my tv doesn’t support it, which it definitely does.

            Good job Sony.

Honestly, the console and the tech and games are great. But Sony are really ****ing up this gen. It all feels very half arsed from them. If they don't start improving I'm selling and getting a SeriesX.

So they get all that right but you dump them and go MS because of a few niggles? that's customer loyalty these days summed up in one sentence.

I'm loyal to no company. I'll jump ship any day of the week, as everyone should.

                    Why not have both?

On the VRR side I haven't tested it myself but I can see on twitter digital foundry will be having a deep dive into it soon enough.

                        Seems you're not alone.

Also, the PS5 VRR solution only works on framerates of 45-120. So if you have a 30fps game with frame pacing issues (like most running in quality mode), it does nothing. Again, Xbox applies VRR across the spectrum and on Freesync. Sony solution is incredibly limited.

Thats my set and I’ve had issues with vrr on the SeriesX as well.

Yeah I've got an XH90 model and I don't use VRR on mine because it disabled local dimming.

So you're sacrificing brightness and picture quality for smoother frame rate. It's disappointing as it's a non issue on LG OLED and other models.

Good job we’re getting 30 or 60fps options on consoles for foreseeable future then. Also as Cassius just pointed out it doesn’t work on 30fps (which is all you really need it for) so entirely pointless feature then, oh well.
