I imagine that 90 day limit is a nightmare when new hardware releases

    Comment

My launch Series S has been having a weird issue lately where it’ll boot to the dashboard but the main tile is Quick Tips instead of the last game I played. None of the games will load and some other funky stuff happens (like Game Pass not opening). Rebooting fixes it:

It’s out of warranty now (I didn’t know I could have added the extended warranty within 45 days of buying it) but the guy in that thread said he had the same issue with his replacement console so it’s probably not the hardware itself. I disconnected the external SSD to help me find the cause.

Someone posted about trying a different HDMI cable and, while that sounds daft on the surface, I did change my HDMI switch just before this started happening so that could be the reason! I’ll try the old HDMI switch if this starts becoming a regular thing. Considering how few results I found when googling, the HDMI sounds the most likely culprit.

I have my Xbox going through a capture card and that HDMI cable it comes with was causing me issues. Weirdly, my PC would boot to a black screen with the HDMI connected and if I plugged it in after my PC booted normally I'd get sound popping and stuff. Problems went away when I switched to a different HDMI cable.

I've had the same issue twice in the last couple of days. A full shutdown and reboot fixes it... I'm using mine with a hdmi switcher into my PC monitor but then I've had this exact setup for ages without issue.

My only thoughts is they've broken something on the back end or in a recent update and it's nothing hardware related on the actual console.

            I’m wondering that as well.

My wife was using the Xbox to play Octopath Traveller but I’m back on Halo Infinite now that she’s finished.

Halo’s one of those games I don’t mind restarting the console to play. It takes no time at all to fire up and get back to my save game.

Maybe it’ll get sorted out in the next update…

So Xbox is officially rolling out Discord voice support, currently in Alpha build but should hit everyone fairly soon:

I've seen on reddit a few people have been having issues with the dashboard displaying weirdly, tiles not appearing etc. recently.

Halo Infinite is hammering peoples data limits every other match

Saw what, whoops... I've been watching all the forge leaks coming out. The amount of stuff you can do in forge is absolutely crazy... no doubt the community is going to save this game.

I'm also convinced that 343 is aiming to re-launch this at the end of this season once all the crap that should have been there at launch is in place.

A new update for Xbox Series X/S speeds up the consoles' cold boot time by cutting the length of the startup logo anima…

New update is going to make booting up 5 seconds faster. What with this and the fact gents can now update in the background on energy saver mode there's very little reason to use the always on mode now.

Energy saver is cool, especially in this day and age. But I can't believe the boot up is long enough to take 5 seconds off. I don't own one, but the ps5 boots up from rest mode faster then it takes my monitor to turn on.

This isn't rest mode though is it, this is powering from being completely off.

Apparently that was 20s and is now 15s. That seems a bit crazy still but it's a nice improvement.

No idea what the PS5 boot time is from cold, I know it's pretty quick. I don't use rest mode because it consistently throws errors for me telling me it didn't shutdown properly.

Oh OK, so it's basically from cold. Still surprised, 5 seconds is still a sizeable chunk cut from the boot up. It's nice that they bother to optimise these things, lord knows Sony won't.

Still strong but targets missed. Post-COVID will be a factor, plus cost of living but that lack of key big content must also be digging in now too

Only profits matter, everything else is pointless fluff, which is why they would never release them.
