Ironically enough, this would've been a winner back when they still had their old dedicated London Retro Store on Whitfield Street back in the 1990s.

I wonder what the core issue is here?
That's a preposterous drop in player numbers. Is the lure of it being "free" just a front for paywall content?
Or is it just a poor game that's done better elsewhere with a more faithful player base?
Not a fan of GaaS, but I don't revel in the failures of games when you know how hard the team have worked on it.
I was really looking forward to Arc Raiders, which was looking like a cross between EDF and Helldivers as a PVE game, but they've made the decision to make it a free to play pvp or pvpve game, so I fear that will die the same death as Foamstars.

Reading around it seems like a myriad of issues hit it. Apparently it's terrible solo, low on content, the gameplay loop gets old quick, it struggled to deal with the visual comparisons to the much stronger Splatoon games and I imagine Helldivers 2 then sucked all the air out of the room for any possible word of mouth too.
The trouble with hit GAAS games is there's always a new craze waiting around the corner and rarely does a title break through when something similar is already out, yet companies keep making clones hoping they will break through. It's something you have to be very quick with and at the tip of the spear. When even games like PUBG see their success limited because Fortnite ripped them off so quick their head span, making these titles feels like a bigger risk than making a single player game.
