Maybe there's a chance somebody human (lol!) has been trained to succeed Martinet like how Tony Anselmo succeeded Clarence Nash as the voice of Donald Duck or how Matthew Lillard succeeded Casey Kasem as Shaggy, but I'd be surprised if that were the case.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 21-08-2023, 23:19.

Help me understand this, folks.
I understand this much: Denuvo is intended to stop pirate copies of PC games from working, but is unpopular because it negatively impacts performance. The fear being that this would do the same on the Switch, which already has performance issues.
What would it actually be trying to stop on Switch though? I believed that the majority of Switch piracy happens less with cracked / chipped hardware and copied game carts, and more with the ROMs being dumped to PC and run in emulators there? Do we expect it to actually deal with the latter rather than the former, or?

I think it's also to reduce software versions, if you publish on PC a publisher might enforce Denuvo, which isn't available on one or more consoles. Having Denuvo available on all platforms, even if it's totally useless (even on PC), this will help keeping differencies between versions down.

Yep, they claim that the Switch Denuvo can thwart the Roms from running on Switch emulators as well as on the console itself. The issue there though is that they're launching it on the verge of the Switch being in Year 8 of its lifespan meaning that it's missed almost every game that would be a primary concern, they could put it into Switch 2 titles but unless something immediate happens that won't be emulated anytime soon either so it's a bit redundant.
The piracy numbers are so small now that it's a wonder anyone wants to shell out to them.
My suspicion is... it's being sold as a major move into the console space but I find myself questioning whether the reality is that it's a desperate claw for business because they don't actually make enough from the existing PC software space. Companies have increasingly removed Denuvo after the initial launch months because the bulk of sales are up front and so it costs more than it's worth to keep paying Denuvo. That means increasingly Denuvo will be getting one time payments per title rather than ongoing revenue. I feel like they've targeted Switch because it's easily emulated and hacked and also has a huge userbase whereas hardly anyone is bothering to exploit the other systems. They've got nowhere to expand their market and software protection outside of gaming already has enough companies in that space. I do wonder if sometime down the line it won't be hackers that take Denuvo down, more that the value of their product isn't high enough

Think it's on Steam and the US eStore already, but there's a delay for it coming to the EU.
