They should have done like with Leynos, a full remake with new graphics and several QoL improvements, alongside a port of the original.

Wish Dracue Software was still alive

M2 are handling the development of this. I think it's in excellent hands, tbh.

For sure, but it's a simple port of the original, while more could have been done with it.
I really like Valken, so I'm a bit disappointed Declassified is just as it is.

I guess I should be grateful they aren't using the PS2 version as base

I think we need to wait and see. Just dismissing it as "simple" really does a disservice to the consistently high quality work that M2 do. I feel like it'll be more than just a "simple" port.

          Let's see.

Apparently an art book for the new Zelda game has leaked with absolutely tons of content being spoiled in the process. Best to avoid if you want to be going in blind. I’m not even going to watch any exclusive Direct concerning the game. After the last snippet I’m already sensing Zelda: Nuts & Bolts and that’s enough for me.

We're really looking forward to more Kirby on Friday. Satisfying whacking and walloping with a steady and drawn-out difficulty curve. We've only been playing since Planet Robobot, so any remakes or remasters of the older games are welcome. We're going to force mum and grandma into some 4-player as well, it's going to be great.

Quite an intriguing little insight into the kind of requirements that Nintendo would have insisted on when approaching the idea of a film being made.

There's quite literally no point in this direct, trailers are launched every week but right through to release it's become interesting to see how much Nintendo has forced Universal to take a back seat in promoting the film or at least being associated with it over Nintendo itself. I'd love to know the extent of control conditions Nintendo demanded.

I'm pretty sure Universal is happy about that, Nintendo's footing the advertisment bill while they get ticket revenue for the movie and the parks. No matter how much they've tried, Universal would have never been able to force their name between Mario and Nintendo, better sit back and get as much money as they can.

Yep, it's an interesting comparison to say the Resident Evil or Sonic films where the games companies name isn't maintained with as much emphasis

I guess it's not too surprising. After the debacle over the original Hollywood Mario movie, Nintendo swore off Hollywood adaptations ever again.

It wouldn't surprise me if all of the agreements over this movie take the form of Nintendo saying "we have final veto, absolute creative oversight, and if you don't like it, piss off back to America and we'll just keep being incredibly successful, don't let the door hit your arse on the way out".

Nintendo are one of the few firms with popular IP where Hollywood media have to approach them like Oliver asking for more. Any attempt to dictate to them would just be laughed out of the room. It must, actually, be an unusual situation for them.

Looks like it's working too, my kids have been hyped on it for months, way more than any other animated film in the past and they haven't even really oversaturated the marketing. Like TLOU, it's almost like making a faithful adaptation of a gaming property is a good move

Assuming it does well, and both companies plan to make sequels/spin-offs, it feels like a Donkey Kong Country movie is a slam dunk

Let's be honest: All bets are off with the majority of Nintendo IP being turned into movie adaptations if TSMBM is a massive box-office success. We are clearly now in the age of Nintendo firmly setting their sites on being a true multimedia powerhouse (Super Nintendo World, TSMBM, etc.).

I think it's clear that the merchandising for TSMBM will make a killing, but I'm actually intrigued to see if the film actually does big box-office numbers. It's not like the bar for videogames adapted into films has been historically high.

The merchandise element is one area that the kids have been a bit disappointed in so far. They've shown off new action figures, Hot Wheel Mario Karts etc but a consistent issue with them all seems to be that the toy companies have attempted to adapt the movie Mario look into toy form to distinguish it from the usual game version and the result doesn't look quite right. At best passable though inferior, at worst like a knock off so (but good for my wallet) they're thankfully not that interested in the merch so far.
