At best passable though inferior, at worst like a knock off so (but good for my wallet) they're thankfully not that interested in the merch so far.

    Vs Movie

Give it time. Once the movie drops, the merch side of things should improve.

If there is one area that Nintendo know how to maximise, it'll be the merch of their IP. They'll absolutely coin it for TSMBM.

I’m placing it at around the $1.2B mark. Marvel numbers.

The 2016 Warcraft film apparently holds the record for highest-grossing movie based on a videogame with $439m taken at the box-office for it to date so TSMBM would literally have to make history in spectacular fashion to make in excess of $1B.

        Needless to say, I'm sceptical!

Or are you just referring to merchandising profits dataDave??

For pure box office I'd be amazed if it did that much business. Adults regularly go and see Marvel films without kids, and I don't think that'll be the case for this film (I love mainline Mario videogames but there's no way I'd go and watch this at the cinema - I probably won't even bother when it hits streaming). I think it'll be successful though.

I predict that it will be the least unsuccessful Mario film.

I still have my doubts it could be better than The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach.

Hopefully they made enough Goombas for this one

Is the build quality of the OLED model a substantial increase over the original? I couldn't believe how flimsy and cheap the first model felt with its cheapo plastic.

To the surprise of nobody, Nintendo confirm that they won't be at E3 this year.

The stand got a substantial upgrade in that department. The front bezel feels like enamelled metal, and the back has like a cold to touch matte surface despite that side of the housing still being plastic. You won’t want to go back to a regular Switch afterwards.

                        Thank you.

After how solid the new 3DS was I was very surprised at how cheap the Switch felt in hand. I do like the new OLED screen though and the whole Switch Pro thing has been canned. If the successor isn't BC I'll get one but hopefully it will be.

Its odd how the DS Lite was the peak of Nintendos aesthetic though as that really felt like a premium device. Everything after has been getting cheaper and cheaper looking.

                        Nintendoomed without Iwata.

I always felt the DSi felt a lot more premium than the DSL. Quality control was quite poor during the 3DS era sadly.

What I like most about the OLED Switch is that the joy-cons feel a lot more solidly attached to the unit.

I liked the whole lacquered plastic look and it was leaps and bounds beyond that Tonka prototype they bought to market. DSi had great screens but the dpad was a step back from DSL. That and no more GBA slot.

3DS was all over the place on QC though, agree with that. Good news about the joy con attachment as that was one of the things I didn't like. Just overall the build quality was so creaky and the plastic had a nasty cheap feeling to it that put me off. It is tempting just to emulate though because of how much better the games look and play.

The DS Lite was a giant upgrade over the original (which really did feel like a prototype or reference model in retrospect). Its injection moulded look was very iPod inspired though and I think is now quite of its time.

On the Get Played podcast (which I recommend) they were recently talking about how the OLED is a pretty substantial upgrade in terms of overall build which was news to me. The Switch is kinda creaky and doesn’t feel great in the hand, so it’s good that they made those broader changes and it’s not just a better screen.

I actually think one of the nicest pieces of Nintendo hardware in recent times is the Switch Pro pad. Such a nice controller in every way.

I can’t imagine owning a Switch without the Pro controller. I’ve had it since day one, and use it exclusively other than when playing ARMS.

It’s provided a much more lux Switch gaming ‘experience’ over the entire stretch. I feel sorry for those without one.
