The reason I reference Miyamoto is because I admire the strength of the roots of Zelda. You can draw a direct line between Tears and his original inspiration of creating a digital version of his childhood summers exploring caves and forests in the countryside. I love that!
Odious they may be (at times) but they're inevitable and Aonuma being at the forefront of 3D Zelda is undeniable. That said, I take your point, especially the genesis of the franchise in the context of Miyamoto-san's childhood which is a throughline for pretty much everything he has ever created for Nintendo.

Introducing Clone of the Kingdom: a custom skin design that's "heavily inspired" by the latest novelty console. Available for the Switch & Steam Deck for a limited time only.

Dbrand love flying really close to the sun dont they... I've just spent the last 3 minutes comparing this to the real one and it's very, very close.

I can feel the Ninty lawyer machine spinning up...

The steam deck version is actually pretty nice.

TotK consoles are suddenly in abundance here. Not so much the Pro controllers, unfortunately.

Now I just need to get the wife on board.

A real man doesn’t ask, he just does, but year the consoles TotK consoles suddenly seem abundant in the UK.

In other news I’ve used the Switch in handheld mode for the first time, good effing lord it’s excruciatingly painful to use this way, not only is it way too thin on the Joycons the right stick is so far down my hand right hand cramps in 10mins then my left goes due to how thin the cons are.

May have to cart the pro controller around as well.

What you can do is get the Fixture mount which basically clips into the pro controller and sets the switch tablet just above it. That way you can play with the controller as normal.

I haven't tried that but if you've got a pro controller it's supposedly rather comfortable.

That’s what I do. The pro controller is really nice too.

I don't mind split Joycon so much, I find it pretty liberating relaxing my arms by my side or whatever. So I usually opt for tabletop mode when out and about if possible (or indeed pro controllers when it's a family day out). Handheld mode gets used the least.

TotK has sold 500K at retail in France alone over the first weekend (BotW did 1.25M there lifetime).

Global estimates are at 10M sold. Not including digital.

Well, the French weekend is one day longer than everywhere else

TotK first-play thread is spoiler central thanks in part to piracy. No chance I’m going back in there until I’m well, well into the game.

How are people getting on with it? I’m still right at the start as me and my son are playing it together. We don’t even have any real weapons yet other than what the baddies drop for us. A lot of my time is spent either gliding or skydiving while imagining I’m playing a new Pilotwings instead of a Zelda game. It’s like a game within a game. I don’t think this will ever get boring, for the exact same reasons why Pilotwings 64 doesn’t.

With BotW taking us 18 months to finish this is another one that’s going to last a very, very long time.

I’ve not had time since Sat to play it but can’t say I’m impressed with Tobal having over a week head start so have been avoiding the thread as im still on the starter section, also it being pirated on emu isn’t really on.

Apologies, we have discussed this but didn't make a formal statement, but yes, the admins are in agreement that posts about games that have been pirated ahead of their release will get deleted.

We'll update the forum rules to reflect this.

We tend to steer away from illegal or even grey areas like fake Lego kits and it's generally poor form for a forum that loves games talking about games they've stolen.

I'll leave the posts in for now, but will add an admin note.
