NSMBU/NSLU/NSMBD and the two Super Mario Maker games take that dubious distinction for me.

Its not a massive new art style it feels like all they have updated is the character animations and style, the world and backgrounds look very similar to NSMBU the desert world was very flat as was the cave area they showed. I don't have to wait till October to play this when i can go play New Super Mario Brothers U deluxe instead.

The only reason this doesn't have "New" in the title is because the series is hardly new anymore. They've been doing them for nearly twenty years. They even re-used the exact same logotype styling, so I'm placing this within the same series. I'm happy with that, considering I like the NSMB games very much.

I'm disappointed that all the worlds in this seem to be desert land, ice land, etc. Would've been nice to see some new stuff. Even a return to some of the environments from Odyssey would've beene far more interesting. Side scrolling Metro City would have been cool.

If I do end up playing this, I'd like to think those irritating flower voices can be muted.

I wish we'd get a new fully 2D Sprite (or hand drawn) Mario Bros game again one day. Still feel robbed that we never got a new 2D Mario on the GBA

Key word being "New", but you're obviously ignoring that so okay.

Anyhoo, NSMB is rubbish and I'm glad that Wonder consigns it to the bin at least.

EDIT: Only just realised that the Wonder logo in that image had a "New" tacked onto it!

Agreed - like a spiritual successor to goemon (how I wish Konami would do a compilation of those games). Play Asia have it down as a physical release. Can’t find it on Amazon jp though. I do hope it is coming out on the little wee cartridges.

It’s def coming on physical the official site lists both digital & physical but yes not on amazon japan yet I also did a search and came up empty but I’ll be checking weekly till it appears. It feels like Goemon mixed with the art style of Sega's hero bank.
