Nintendo Switch: Thread 10

With all the latest news on their heavy handed efforts to clamp down on it there's been so much focus on the Switch mod/piracy scene but for me it only raises the curiosity as to how secure Nintendo feels with the security on the Switch 2. The horse has bolted, run its course and died of old age when it comes to people doing what they want with the original machine and if Nintendo has done a solid job next time with the next console they shouldn't need this pre-launch legal blitz. They'll do all this and because they were so heavy handed things will be silent on Switch 2, then a year or two into its life I expect to see news sites talk about how the system has been ripped open and Nintendo missed it because they drove the communities underground and made them harder to monitor.

To be fair though, I'd argue that if they drive the communities sufficiently underground, they'll have done their job. Some piracy isn't really all that damaging in the final analysis - if people weren't going to buy the games anyway, which many of the most dedicated GBATemp types weren't, there's not much harm done. It's when you've got mums at the school gates buying R4s pre-loaded with hundreds of games that you're at more serious risk of losing sales.

Presumably their tipping point was when they frequently started having first party titles leak up to a fortnight before street date, though I guess it's an interesting counter point to the growth we've seen in PC gaming where it's far more common yet we're still seeing expansion in that area.

I think that was part of it. But I actually think the bigger problem was that the piracy wasn't sufficiently underground. Thriving subreddits, popular Patreons and easy-to-use software were conferring a sort of quasi legitimacy on emulators like Ryujinx.
You can see how it would make Nintendo take action, because the risk is that it starts to attract users who might otherwise be buying Nintendo hardware and games, not just the hobby pirates for whom the research and tinkering is as much or more fun than actually playing the games.

Rumour of Kirby: Planet Robobot HD coming to Switch in 2025
The underrated Kirby's Blowout Blast was spun-off from the Kirby 3D Rumble mini-game in Planet Robobot (much like how Treasure Tracker came from The Adventures of Captain Toad in SM3DW) so it has my interest.

Been playing the eshop demo of Yobarai tantei miasma breaker, really fun spooky shooter action game has gorgeous pixel art and a really neat spooky vibe to it. Sadly after checking nintendos online page the game sadly only has Japanese so no idea if this one will be coming to the west. Theres a ton of weapons and upgrades it plays a bit like vampire survivors with the way the upgrades come. Sadly the demo is short but it's out next month on Japn 16th so not that long to wait.

I do love a good board game i'm so tempted to grab the japanese version of game of life (aka jinsei game) becausue it comes with this controller last time i saw something like this was back on ps1 when they made a similar one for game of life then. Only downside is jinsei game doesn't have english so while i know the basics as i have played the boardgame in the past i'll still have to figure out events.
