At this point Nintendo hardly need unveil it

Got to be the most detailed leaks of a new console we've ever received.

The folks who wanted something as close as possible to the Switch 1 in terms of form and function should be happy. It's really as close to the original as it could possibly be.

I've no doubt I'll end up getting one eventually but I'm not sure about at launch. I think it will come down to what's going to be there day one and within 2025, and what sort of cross-gen we're looking at. If they do the same as Sony and MS and 90-100% of early software is also on Switch 1, I might just play them there if they appeal.

That's the interesting part, the system is so severely leaked at this point whereas the software side is pretty heavily locked up. If it's really launching in the next couple of months it sets my expectations that we'll be getting pretty much just a single first party major title this side of Xmas.

That makes sense though, because the Switch's form factor is great.

Yes, there are improvements you could make, such as the creaky nature of it in handheld, or the stick drift, but that's engineering. People clearly loved the design of the Switch and Nintendo's smart to keep to it.

I don't disagree. It will be very interesting to see if the Switch 2 first party stuff also comes to Switch 1.

It's a brilliant form factor, I totally agree. Genius, really. And that is Nintendo's true distinction, I think, designing toys that appeal on a purely hardware level.

It makes total sense but I do wonder if there might be a tricky sales challenge attached. It looks essentially the same. I'm not sure it's going to be easy to perceive it as more than the most basic upgrade rather than a generational leap, or even a new system at all. Like perceived as the DSi of the Switch lineup more than a true successor.

If nothing in the form or the features separates it, then is it just going to be in the game lineup? As great as Nintendo games are, I'm in agreement with Wakka in that, for me, their strength has been in designing toys that appeal on a purely hardware level. The DS because of the hardware. And while the Switch did get great software support, I'd say the same was true for that system too. And while you could say that means that this should do great because it's the same, I'm not sure that's a given. I feel like Nintendo's big successes are usually because they're different.

I do wonder if there is a unique selling point here or is it the Switch Pro?

This is also my thinking and what I kind of left out of my last post.

I would be very surprised if the Switch 2 ever attains anywhere near the sales figures the first one achieved. I'd guess it will probably do about 50-60% of Switch 1's sales in the final tally, so somewhere around 75-85m units.

If I'm right, that's not bad but I think in the end it would prove Switch 2 to be a stopgap before Nintendo need to do something exciting with hardware again.

Since the 2000s Nintendo have been on a tick-tock schedule of brand new ideas that are smash hits, followed by iterative follow-ups that fail to reproduce the same success. The Switch 2 is the latter.

Gawd, Nintendo had better play it smart this time.

                  It's "Switch 2", Nintendo.

Don't get clever with it. "Switch". "2".

                  Not even "Two". "2".

It's been all but confirmed it's called Switch 2, and the logo has circulated (it's just a Switch logo with a big '2' next to it). The right move, I agree.

                      So many possibilities.

                          Some variation of Swish?

Maybe the Swish could be the name of the Premium SKU.

I'm not hyped but patiently waiting. I've not owned a Switch though I did buy one for the office years ago so we could play on Friday night drinks on the big screen! We pretty much only played Smash
