I'm sure that there's a multitude of reasons for why it missed its targets but ultimately the immediate feel is that Destiny 2 is easy to get out of, harder to get back into and ultimately - old. With the pandemic over and the competition reigniting, Bungie has rested on Destiny 2 too long it feels like.

      Missed target by 45%...

That's not missing the target, that's not even close... Which makes me think GAAS model is extremely fickle and one poor season can destroy built up goodwill... or the targets being set were just nonsense based on where the condition of the game actually is.

I have, currently, absolutely zero reason to want a PS5. It's funny because I remember there being two or three a bit ago. A handful of (really good) games I can't get anywhere else is the only excuse I need to buy new hardware.

Pure guesswork but I'm assuming its popularity collapsed as given the age of the game they should have been able to set a realistic expectation.

As soon as they said that they had to remove content to add new content it felt clear that Destiny 2 needed to have a clearer endgame in mind and that if they wanted to pursue a long term GAAS model for the franchise they needed to get Destiny 3 in motion designed better around it. Personally, it feels like D3 needs to now be what they originally set out. A direct sequel and trilogy closer aimed at 3-4 years of content then wrap the whole thing up and move on. It doesn't feel like enough faith exists to make an evergreen out of it but the core gameplay is so good they could probably get a final entry to land right whilst they work on something new (because I don't think Marathon is going to pay off for them)

And this is why Nintendo doesn’t ever sell on PC, it directly affects hardware sales which affects profits short & long term.

Pretty much, D2 is so dense to the beginner it’s practically impenetrable, it’s just the worst experience starting for the first time for a newbie. Even going back into it after a few expansions is a rubbish experience, you find half your armour, weapons, materials have become useless and have to start all over again.

Who knows where Marathon is going as well, concept vid art & music made a lovely short clip but there’s clearly zero game there, i don’t have much faith in it.

Also, seems bungle are back to their lazy ways yet again, constantly reduced scope on D2 expansions (which are always late as well), common bugs never get fixed, pvp dead in the water, Marathon no where to be seen with no direction. All with 1200 people at the studio (well 1100 now), Its outrageously slow paced.

Bungie have confirmed the issue is a sharp drop off in Destiny 2's popularity and also said the next expansions delay was due to feedback not being strong enough

I've given up with Destiny so many times but its a game that keeps pulling me back I've got about 4000 hours in it over both games and all the DLCS (these are rookie numbers compared to some in our clan). It dose feel like they Bungie lost their way with this and massively pandered to the hardcore that have since abandoned the game. What your left with is a game thats virtualy impossible for a new player as all the end game content, the build crafiting and grind for meta weapons and Armour is like a second job. One you cant do unless you have a team willing to help or start at the bottom with you.

One of biggest problems is tank like bullet sponge champion enemy's that flood the end game, they can kill you in seconds and slow progress down to a crawl their made up of three classes:

Barrier Champions When damaged to one third, they will create an impenetrable dome shield that also heals up most of their lost health.

Overload Champions not only have an advanced healing factor, but they also have increased ability regeneration

Unstoppable Champions have a severely high damage reduction and an immunity to staggering or stuns, and are highly aggressive

Each champion needs you to use a specific gun with the right mod attached to defeat them (Barrier, Overload, or Unstoppable) so your forced into using whatever this seasons barrier, overload or unstopable weapons are (they rotate each season) and if you don't your not going to be able to kill the champions.

You cant play solo you need a team of people with meta loadouts for endgame content it means that you get a very toxic community that only wants to play with people that know what their doing is very competent at the game and often openly hostile to people that don't know what their doing or haven't achieved meta load-outs. if you check the Destiny Looking for games its very toxic and full of posts like "Must have x weapon", "must have x amount of raid clears" "must be x level".

Getting weapons is all random for the most part with certain weapons locked behind events, regularly you get situations where the best guns in the game are locked behind the hardest content. Which creates this self perpetuating situation where if you don't have these weapons your at a constant disadvantage. this is most apparent in its PVP endgame Trials which locks its best version of the weapon behind a flawless trials passage, this means winning 7 rounds of 3v3 games in a row each round is a first to five and can take about 30 minutes to an hour to do in my entire time in D2 Ive only been flawless a handful of times.

Bungie has done very little to address this imbalance and just listens to content creators and what they want so what your left with is a game balanced for someone who dose nothing but play your game 14 hours a day.

Comparison shots of the new PS5 slim to the original. Still don't like that disc bulge but it is clearly a nice bit smaller in all areas.

What it gains in size reduction, it loses in looking more like a grey market knock off

Smaller which is good for those that need it but holy bejebus it looks like a kids toy material quality wise. OG design all the way for me.

That little plastic wedge thing that's supposed to be the horizontal stand is the worst thing I've seen since the original switch kick stand.

It literally looks like the leftover plastic grid from airfix models when you've removed all the pieces...

That's a lot smaller than I was actually visualising it.

                            Hmm.....

It looks quite a bit smaller, I think they've done a pretty good job. But it is cheaper looking, as 'slim' updates nearly always are. I think that's fine and well and good if it comes with a commensurate price reduction, but this time around they're flogging it for literally the same price (which of course is an increase from the launch price!).

I have to say this does not look like a £500 piece of kit.
