It's a good point, and it makes me wonder if Sony will be relying on an audience of people already heavily invested in the PlayStation ecosystem and who want access to their existing library at the best possible fidelity.

It will be really interesting to see how it fares commercially.

Wasn't the base PS5 meant to be a solution for 60FPS fans?

Looks like I'm skipping this one too, if the leaks are true.

Indeed, both big consoles have been a joke over 4k/60FPS, you can either have 60fps with the effects turned off, or have sub 30fps with some RTX and a lot of ghosting everywhere while the xbox/ps5 struggle with frame-generation, the latest PS5 game FF7 rebirth is disgusting and i fully expect DD2 to follow suit. This is why i've re-joined the PC crowd this last year after not updating my PC since around 2012/14.

The push for better RT also reeks of the kind of decision making that would have been a focus several years back. RT has improved as the years go on but it's far from something consumers care about anymore or is focused on in most game releases.

Not sure what you’re on about but virtually everything has had a 60fps or 30fps option so far on PS5 as it’s clearly something that’s been popular with players as it’s been kept. Milage will vary from game to game but so far it’s been pretty good this gen.

3140 games on ps5 and only four of them don't offer a 60 fps mode, I'd say that the PS5 has been pretty successful at what it set out to do. Yes, you can have everything on pc without compromise, but just the graphics card alone to achieve this is double what you pay for am PS5 or Series X.

Now do the calculation with games that are 4K60 only available and run exclusively on PS5. Plenty of games run at 60 FPS on PS5/Xbox Series X, but they're mostly doing so at 1080P - which isn't a high bar.

Or to make it easier, just list the games that do run at 4K60, because it won't take long.

After the rumours of an early 2025 release of GTA VI, I've already had a few conversations with people who would consider getting a PS5 or upgrading to a Pro.

I'd probably go Pro if one came out around then. If not, I imagine some standard PS5 bargains could be had if the Pro dropped.

Since reading it the more I'm convinced GTA6 won't be tuned for PS5 Pro at all. It's just bad business for Rockstar to tailor for it.

I don't get where people are coming from with this attachment of PS5 Pro to GTA6...

Ok so they're coming out close to each other and the PS5 Pro would be the "most powerful" console available at that time... but Digital Foundry just blew any hope of the upgrade (if any) being significant given the 10% boost on the same CPU and the GPU is conservatively a 45% boost.

It sounds like you'll be playing at the exact same frame-rate with maybe some nicer graphical touches. By all means buy a PS5 Pro to play everything else, but don't base the purchase off GTA as the sole reason. I think you'd be massively disappointed.

PS5Pro sounds like it’s all about using fancy upscaling tech to save on rendering allowing games to reach higher resolutions and frame rates. Can’t imagine too many games are CPU limited on console. If a game can offer a choice of 30 or 60 fps modes then that suggests there is plenty of headroom. More performant ray tracing hardware will hopefully mean distinct performance and fidelity modes aren’t a thing.

Yeah, to clarify, if I'm going to buy a PS5 to play GTA VI, I might as well buy one that's a little more future-proofed than a standard PS5 in case any future games prefer the Pro.

I'm not buying a Pro specifically for GTA - I even said the launch of the Pro should drop the price of a standard PS5, so could be tempted to grab a bargain over the latest revision.

PS5 Pro uses AI in its chips so their that, we've had the cloud to improve performance in our hardware now we have AI. It's going to be like that bit in that Transformer's film isn't it where the all the electronic items in the office turns into evil robots and starts attacking people, the future sure is scary.

Nearly Lost me dad to a 3 in one xerox photocopier, printer, scanner. We were scavenging this old office complex and didn't see that it was in there, one second he's elated at having found some Belvita breakfast biscuits and some sachets of 3 in one instant Nescafé coffee in a draw, the next this industrial-sized photo copier has sprung from the shadows and is firing sheets of A4 paper at him. He got some pretty nasty paper cuts and was completely at the mercy of this thing, thankfully it was running low on A4 and the office staff must have forgotten to re-load the A3 tray so it ran out of ammo pretty quick.

Not a bad shout if you are thinking about longevity.

I stuck with my launch PS4 and One S throughout last gen and by the last year or two I was definitely feeling like I was getting the ****ty version of everything. Call of Duty running in about 900p, stuff like that.

With that said, you use a projector, right? Is it 4K? If not, you might not see a lot of benefit from the PS5 Pro, and you might be better off picking up a standard model.

Your just repeating yourself here Marty, you stated at the start of this gen were not going to get native 4k@60fps and fair enough, consoles don’t have the grunt, know what though? Neither to 95% of pc’s.
