This is true but I think to Martys point stating almost every game on PS5 has a 60fps option is one thing, but at what cost?

It's really only discussing a portion of the overall story to suit a narrative. The reality is went seem some pretty low resolutions to get some titles to hit that and it's been disappointing as a result.

With this Pro model I am curious to see Sonys own frame generation tech and what it offers but I don't think this new upgrade is going to move the needle all that much.

Some people are talking like it's a major upgrade in horsepower and making some pretty massive claims on what it'll be able to do. It won't though...

The fact is, no one frickin knows how it will fare with past and future games. If it's anything close to PS4 Pro difference, then it'll be a nice buy for those who can afford it. Maybe sell your base PS5 for example.

People talking like it DOA without seeing it in action.

I welcome the option. Whether I take the plunge all depends on how well it performs and price.

That's it exactly (and why using Twitter as a source is never a good idea). To be clear, Xbox Series X and PS5 were marketed as the 4K60 console generation - and the number of titles that do can be counted on your fingers, whether a PC can do the same doesn't change anything (although mine can and it's awesome ) - and being selective on your data to make your percentages look better than they are doesn't make you look smart.

I'm sure the PS5 Pro will be fine, but if Sony is smart they'll price it for the whales as a halo product - if it has pushed the GPU to the specs touted, it should start reaching closer to that target, but if so, I doubt it'll be launched at the the same price parity of PS4/PS4 Pro, both of which launched at £349 in the UK IIRC. I can't see it being launched at the £449.99 as the PS5 was (which then increased in price).

Given how much they were going for at scalper prices for a long time during the shortages, and should there be a substantial performance upgrade, £650-750 will still see it sell out - but at that price, now that GFX card prices have fallen (you're getting around 3090 performance with the 4070 series cards now for less than a 1/3rd of the price), it is creeping into PC territory.

Kind of, yes, the PS5 pro may well be closer to a stand alone 7series gfx card, I recon £599 personally but that’s a side point. But, and it’s a big but, your not getting a whole PC when you buy a gfx card are you, you still need everything else to buy into that ecosystem, and that’s a big stumbling price point for most console gamers.

Fine, YOU have everything else and can just upgrade a gfx card, but that’s not most gamers, and the Pro isn’t aimed at you, or Dave or PC gamers is it.

            PlayStation digest:
New PlayStation that will do 4K60. Not like that old PS5 you've got; it was definitely never implied that that could do 4K60 and any old stories you read saying it could are fake news, sad.

FWIW Polybius was doing true 120fps on PS4, in VR.

Bearing in mind as well, a £600 PS5 Pro is in a way more like £900 which reduces that price differential considering most are likely to have shelled out for a PS5 and be trading it in so to try and keep step with PS games you have the trade in costs and console software tax on top. Even putting PC aside though, the Pro will likely never really get into its stride. The timeline is likely to be:

              2024: PS5 Pro launches
2025: One or two exclusives later in the year show stronger support of 1440p/4K scaling
2026: PS4 cross gen finally fully dries up
2027: PS6 speculation is at fever pitch and PS5 Pro production is wound down
2028: PS6 launches with consistent PS5 era pushing games finally the norm

I think the discussions about 60fps support in PS5 games is fair comment but also adds to how PS5 Pro lacks a key USP like the arrival of 4K TV screens widely into homes. That's before even looking at how Sony is benching its major budget visual pushes till the generation is winding up. It's likely they summed it up well as a DF Console, something that appeals to that specific niche that is increasingly fading away as an audience but are still eager for every hardware nudge forward that offers added visual elements.

I don't think it's DOA at all... I just don't understand people saying they'll pick it up because of GTA6...

That is just down right weird to me. If Sony comes out and says they've reworked a lot of the PS5 (and PS4) catalogue to use their frame-gen tech and run significantly better on Pro though then that's a huge bonus and reason to upgrade.

With the Series X console the frame rate boost and auto HDR tech did absolute wonders for some older titles that was pretty transformative. If something similar happens here then it'll be a major win.

Shipping with a dual sense that has 3x the battery would be good as well.

Considering consoles have only just got gta5 at 60fps then there’s absolutely no way rockstar will do it for PS5 pro, it’s just a matter of milking the 100m cow for them.

Well remembered, but yeah I mainly game on my projector, which isn't even 4K (yet somehow I survive...).
I still don't own anything that can play or show something in 4K!

If the PS5 Pro does happen, I'll definitely be looking at my options for Pro, Standard new and 2nd-hand.
