By tweaking the crap out of it until you've effectively compromised how the game's supposed to look, all for the sake of 10fps? Christ, if you're going to be such a frame-rate whore, why don't you buy a top end card to run it on rather than continuously going back for enigmatic "further testing".

AWESOME - ITS CLASSIC DOOM waves of monsters low ammo questionable guns!!! since fixing dual screen mode i'm getting solid 60fps even with a lot of monsters at 1024*768

Just been playing it with headphones on and when they said sound played abig part they meant it. It scared the bejesus out of me with them on. Sound was more detailed and you can here alot more going on with them on and sent shivers down my spine as you keep thinking "what was that" "where did that come from" then you realise there isn`t anyone there . Give them a try with the lights of and see what you think. Coming through the speakers this game didn`t scare much but with the headphones on it was just about there.

I always play with headphones, and I agree with you its better. It puts you more in the game I think? especially if your room is dark.

The thing with stereo, If a baddie pops up behind me, Im never that sure where he/she/it is, and it kinda makes me jump more when I spin round and see the bugger comming at me.

Bleh. I guess I ought to apologise. Still sensitive from an arguement with some guy on another forum who was blindly insistant that 30fps was a slideshow. Virtually unplayable, according to him...

Well it seems I can't do any better than 30fps no matter what I try, so "slideshow" will just have to suffice.

I do hope Doom gets rather more interesting and varied as it goes on, I'm beginning to tire of the same locations now.

Only playing on 800x600 on Medium settings, and to me, it looks great. I'm not into PC gaming so this is my first game really.

One of those games which the public like more than the critics perhaps.

Just got past the Monorail level. Awesome stuff, the visuals outside the base, small and compact though they are, are still amazing.

for those of you who want to see a player shadow, then open up the DoomConfig.cfg and change seta g_showPlayerShadow "0" to seta g_showPlayerShadow "1"

I agree that, whilst I didn't really find the review to be "mixed" (no game is perfect and he mentioned the bad points - woo), his dissing of Event Horizon was truly lamentable.
