Have just got an ipod, but will be changing PCs in a couple of months time. If I load itunes & tracks onto the current machine, is it possible to transfer these to the new machine when I get it? Please note that as these are work PCs, I won't have possession of both at the same time, and they will only transfer files under the $user directory..... Or will I have to start from scratch on the new PC and reset the ipod?

iTunes won't let you, you will need to download this:

Get CopyTrans to transfer iPod and iPhone music to PC and iTunes. Use CopyTrans Contacts to easily manage iPhone contacts, calendars and more...

          I've uberly ****ed up.

Right, what i done was for Soul seek. I moved, or thought I did. My Music from My Docs, to C Drive. But, My Music remained there and appeared in my C drive aswell.

I put on I tunes, and it can't detect ALOT of my songs, but it does detect quite a few. What I done before this, is because it couldn't detect a few, I just clicked add folder, then selected the new My music from C drive. And now it's put LOADS of doubles on I tunes, like a good half of my songs, are there again! How can I fix this and make sure there are no doubles and they are all detected?

Its messed up bad, I hate computers. :x

Can anyone tell me if any shops sell iPod headphones (just the headphones - Ive got a remote) as mine broke recently and according to my friend no shops sell them seperately.

            Thanks

With iTunes 4.7 (the latest one) you can get it to check for dupes for you. It is in the Edit menu.

You seem to have two copies of your music on your HD and you've asked iTunes to add both to your Library. Your Library isn't a separate copy of the music, but just a big database of songs. My advice would be to get it so you have one copy of each song in iTunes and then "consolidate" your Library. This copies all your music into the iTunes Music folder. Then you man delete the copy that was in My Music or whereever and live happy in the knowledge that all your songs are in one place.

Heh 007 I did the same thing. Iv got 2 of every song that I moved over and its a bitch when you have 5000+ songs.

Not wanting to sound overly simple. But, are you saying delete everything that was in my original My music?

I've got version 4.6. Ive tried to install 4.7 multiple times, but it just hasn't worked for some reason.

                  "consolidate" your Library

I'll do that, but how do i get one of each song first?

                  Thanks dude.

I've noticed, it's only not detecting all the songs that have doubles, if that helps.

Why? The iPod 'phones are crap, invest in a decent set

I dunno, it just kinda annoys me when Ive got something and part of it is broken. I like to have everything in good condition, if no-one else uses there iPod headphones then maybe one of you doods could sell me yours? (if they aren't available elsewhere)

I just yesterday bought some Etymotic ER6i headphones for the iPod. Uber expensive over here but Here ships worldwide so taking advantage of the exchange rate i ordered them from America. Shipped by UPS and here on Monday.

                            WIN.

Consolidating your Library makes a copy of all the music that iTunes shows in a folder called "iTunes Music". After doing this ou can delete the songs you have in "My Music" or whereever you have them.

Your iTunes Library is just a list of songs with a pointer to where they are stored (as opposed to Windows Media player which actually shows you song files in directories). If a song is in your Library but isn't recognised (i.e. doesn't play) this means that you have moved it. Deleting a song from your Library doesn't automatically delete the physical copy of the song.

If things are really borked, then why not just start all over. I mean, delete your Library (without deleting the actual songs) and re add everything (just once!). Then Consolidate your Library to out all your songs in one folder (iTunes Music), and then then delete the copies that you had in My Music.

                              Does that help?

That does indeed. I'd write an in depth response to go with your helpfulness, but it's not needed. Thanks Soi.
