iPod mini is going to be 5 Gig from prob around mid january (Mac World 10-14th) as well as probably the new flash iPod. If that makes a difference to you, but tbh just get a classic iPod as price difference is teh small and the space difference is huge and its not big enough in the first place to need a mini edition imo ;p

I got my iPod last July. The battery only ever lasted about 4.5 hours and in the last couple of months it seriously deteriorated. Now it hardly lasts 45 minutes on a full charge.

My brother/parents dropped it once or twice just before it started deteriorating. What I'm wondering is can I order a replacement battery or is the harddrive buggered and spinning too much draining all the power?

Lost the warranty. Should I just send it back to apple or order a replacment battery? I don't mind what it costs so long as it works.

What do you people do to um? ;p

You are still under warranty so give apple a ring and i dunno cry over the phone or summit ;p . It takes all of two minutes to register apple gear on the apple website kids, so fking do it ;p

I would guess its the battery tbh but have a listen to the back of the iPod because you can hear the HD spinning when you select a track, it should only spin for a few seconds If its spinning loads the it might be that shagging your battery.

          Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting a new Ibook to replace my PC as its much more convenient for me.

However, I have about 2000 songs on Itunes at the moment, all of which are on an Ipod.

The question is, is it possible when I get the new Ibook, to hook up the Ipod and put all the songs back onto Itunes onto the new hard drive?

Hope this can be done, or I wont bother changing over to a mac!

          Thanks, any info much appreciated!

It is possible using ipod viewer, however one of the transfers is not possible. I think its an ipod formatted on a mac wont work on a pc,and a pc ipod will work on a mac, without reformatting.
I can check for you as a work mate has an unofficial ipod book that mentions it.

I don't think so, I'm sure the Ipod has to be formatted differently to use on a mac.

There may be some way to copy across from your PC to the Mac though, and then recopy to your Ipod from the Mac. Probably a good idea to ask over at Ipodlounge.

Cheers for the replies guys - I dont really wanna lose so many tracks - I could copy them all back over again, but I really couldnt be bothered at all!

Any more info would be much appreciated!

A Mac formatted iPod will not work on a windows pc but a windows formatted iPod will work on macs. So yes you can transfer the music form your iPod on your iBook.

I used Pod utility or summit to transfer my songs from iPod to my mac. Just make sure when you plug the iPod in that you don't want iTunes to manage it automatically (iTunes opens when an iPod is connected.), its really a piece of piss. Once you have all your tunes on the mac format the iPod to mac, You will see why but its nowt major ;p

Yeah, just go to ipodlounge and get one of the billions of ipod -> mac transfer utilities available. Then dance.

How good do the iPod's sound hooked up to an amplifier and played over proper speakers. I've been looking at getting one as my CD player has busted on me so my only way of playing music in the lounge is through a console. And also I'm moving house soon and will be travelling mainly on foot to just about everywhere I generally go when I'm in the new house.

I realise the quality will be somewhat defined by the quality of the encoding but I'm curious as to how effective a "home MP3 player" the iPod is. Unless I have to I don't want to have to fork out for an MP3 player and a CD player.

thats what i have at home mate, the ipod hooked up to the surround sound and i think its perfect,so easy to use.
I guess some people could tell a sound drop but probably only hi-fi anoraks.

Yeah, I use my ipod through my hi fi and It sounds the same as it does when It's playing CD's to me. It's only a 2 speaker Sony jobby though.

What sort of lead(s) is it to wire it up? And does it come from the iPod or the docking station? Obviously my amp takes normal seperate system style inputs but its the iPod end I'm not sure about.

I've got spare good quality leads from my old CD player so I ask as I don't want to splash out on new leads unless I have to!

Just a headphone jack at the ipod end and then probably 2 phonos into your stereo.
You can connect via the dock so it sits upright next to your stereo. (line in on the dock)
