If it's the clingy plastic case, it covers the entire pod and works well.

It doesn't really show off the niceness of your pod though.

I've just got one of those plastic cystal cases for my black 30GB ipod and it's ok, makes it look a bit ugly but at least I can handle it without worrying about scratching the bloody thing, they might as well have made the front out of jelly, it's so bloody easy to get marks and fine lines on.

My iPod is really acting up now, Its the 4G one I got at launch which was about almost 2 years ago and just wondering what the chances are of getting it replaced or something from Apple?

The other day it just wiped every single song on it, and when I plug it into my PC, the majority of the time, it freezes the PC, until I Ctrl Alt Del and end the process and it keeps doing this until sometimes it randomly works, then when in iTunes, and updating songs back on, it gets so far, then freezes and says theres and error etc.

Sometimes the battery just wipes itself clean down to minimum and doesnt go on, then it randomly starts working again an hour later with full battery!

And it freezes itself all the time so I need to keep doing the 6 second restart thing!

aye, my 4g one does that freezing thing when its inactive and goes into sleep mode, except its not sleeping but dead till i reset the bugger. Everytime i do the restart trick it takes a good chunk of battery life so is really annoying. Im in the same boat as mine in 2 years old. I asked the guy in the New York apple store and he says bring it int othe shop and someone there can look at it. Of course there is a charge. In which i case i brought a 5g 60gig instead. I know its a waste of money, but the cost to fix it probably makes it more reasonable.

Let me know what you do, as i can maybe still repair my old ipod.

Actually one thing the guy said was always update yah apple itunes and ipod software, so maybe you could do that.

Apple are such an awesome make of MP3 player!
                    Faulty hard drives! Faulty Batteries!
                    Creative Zen anyone?
They might not look like iPods... but I've never heard of any of these stupid ass problems happening with THEM. Audio magazines always slag off iPods for their sound quality, which I can understand as there is indeed a distinct lack of deep bass and high treble when played back on nice speakers.
                    ;p

I have heard some dodgy stuff about the creative Zen. The reason why you dont hear much about them is that not many people have them. I am not a huge Apple fan but I must say the iPod is a really good piece of kit.

The magazines that put the iPod down are usually trying to create controversy because apple is the king of mp3 player sales. Do you notice how they in their reviews they crown the "alba uber player" king of mp3 players only to announce another iPod beater the next month. Announcing an iRiver beater turn no heads.

Complaints about audio quality are stupid too. They usually come from people who encode MP3s in 320kbps and still complain about the poor quality Its a portable mp3 player and the sound is just fine. You can get better headphones and the sound is perfect for being on the go. It may not be good enough for the home of an audiophile but it really is fine for most people

I've had 2 iPods and both have served me well. I love the integration between iTunes (with it's podcast stuff) and the iPod, and the iTMS is nice to have - although I use it mainly for previewing stuff as I don't like to buy DRM music.

The latest Creative player has had poor reviews from what I've seen, and look at the size of it! The thing is over twice as thick as an iPod, and ugly too.

I'm an Apple fan I must admit, although I don't own a Mac. I just love the style of Apple kit, it's beautiful, absolutely beautiful, and along with the fact that (certainly in my experience) it works brilliantly, why would I ever want some other brand?

Bahing the iPod may be 'cool' in certain circles, but it just reeks of standard issue 'knock the guy on top off from his perch' to me.

Ugh iTunes :/ I hate it. Winamp + ml_ipod is much better.
I go through Mac wanting phases. I am a sucker for anything pretty but I am starting to develope a like for linux (the XGL eyecandy really helps!). Certain things about Apple really irk me like how they often overcharge for stuff or take free software and repackage it or sell you something then make you pay for something they should have included it.

At the same time I like their design philosophy of putting things together thoughtfully and with care and making stuff easy to use, but then again I hate their over trendiness and excessive branding :/ bit of a like hate relationship.

Wow, I stopped using Winamp years ago.

I like iTunes, it looks nice, organises things exactly as I like, and has great podcast support.

I've just started using winamp but only as a streaming tool. My laptop is hooked up to my hifi with winamp set to stream an mp3stream from slimserver on my PC. I'm starting to really like slimserver and I can ditch winamp and the laptop once I've been allowed (under the thumb) to buy the squeezebox to pass the stream instead. I'm going to set up slimserver so I can use it to listen remotely too (which I currently use Orb for) so rarely need an actual mp3 player. Could have done with an ipod on while snowboarding though. Once data over phones becomes flat rate (does this exist already?), won't need an ipod ever, but might need some sort of cancer block for the phone
