I have a question for my fellow PSP alumni.

I personally use DVD Decrypter with PSPVideo9 to convert DVDs into MP4s. On the whole, I can't fault the visual/audio quality of the end product.

However, is it just me, or does it just take fecking ages for PSPVideo9 to convert VOB files made by DVD Decrypter in the first place?

    Answers, please.....

I suppose Nu-Eclipse, it depends on your computer. Unless you
mean it's generally slower. I don't use PSPVideo9, but the speed
would be based on your cpu ? The best way to check would be
some other users posting, times, taken..? The whole process of
converting Dvds takes a fair amount of time. With whatever you
      use...

Hi Nero 182. Don't use PSP Video9, but I'd use about 450 to
540kbs/sec, two pass for better quailty, overall. With 2 channel
64kbs sound. Maybe some other PSP Video9 user will help you.
        Or use there forum

        Hope this helps.

I know this sounds obvious, but use the one that your most comfortable
with. Try them all, well, 3GP and PSP Video9. (Unless your on a Mac then
there's a couple more, FfmpegX for example). There all using the same
            engine, but different gui's.

Forgot Nero, just started adding PSP encoding. Juding from the response,
i've read. It's disappointing. At the moment only at 320x240 and fixed bit-rate
            of 768kbs/sec.

              ffmpeg on Linux?

Has anyone actually seen video converted using ffmpeg on Linux run on the PSP? I got it to build with the latest patches... and nothing. -_-

Once I hae created my mp4 movie does anyone know of any software that can crop off (for example) the first 20 seconds of the movie? - Some of the avi files I have been using have annoying intros - waste of space!

Windows Movie Maker might actually let you do it which will be on your system.

mp4 is not a supported filetype.... i'd prefer to do it on that file than the avi if possible???!

Hi bazald. Ffmpeg is used for the mp4 encoding, but there's a special tag
that's needed by the PSP to be played. Otherwise, it'll come up incompatible
data. Which is a real shame, because like i mentioned before. It would be quicker somtimes to just import video and audio into a .mp4 container. Than
having to run a vid, through a lot of programs, sometimes.

So what your missing is a app that works like the ATOMChanger.exe that
                      with 3GP_Converter....

                      Hope this helps..

Hi AllYourBase. There are programs that edit mp4 video. Apple Quicktime
for example. There next to useless for the PSP though, beacuse of what i
mentioned above. The .mp4 files that the PSP uses are not mp4 standard.
If they where you could edit away. You can't though, because of a
                        non-standard header-tag for the .mp4...

So if you edit a .mp4 video. With say, quicktime. Cut/slice paste etc.
Then just export out using pass-through options on video and audio. As a
.mp4. Which usually works great, but, because even though you never
altered the video, audio. It won't work, because it still has to describe
the file. Resulting in a change of the tag (header). Rendering the file
                        incompatible data, on the psp.

So, your best option is using VirtualDub. Open the avi, use the key-frame
buttons (located, bottom left, there left and right arrow with keys above
them) to tag start and the end. Of the part you want to get rid of. Then
Toolbar-> Video-> Direct Stream Copy. Then save as, Saving you having
                        to recompress....

                        Hope this helps, good luck..

                          FFMpeg CVS working, script written

Hey, thanks for trying to help wonderboy, but it turns out that the CVS version of FFMpeg with faac enabled not only should do the job, but does. The problem was actually in the driver for accessing the vfat filesystem. So, totally unrelated. The video works! ^_^

I also wrote a script to automate the process with various options for changing bitrates, widescreen, framerates, and whatnot. Not sure this is the most noticable place to be posting the links to these scripts, but whatever:
