I like webelectricals policy to call YOU back, rather than the other way around. My set ought to be arriving tomorrow. Can't wait

          Will try and do

Yeah, cables are a hidden expense for these sets. Before buying a TV, make sure you can invest the right amount of money into the right cables too. Although ?90 is a bit too high from what I can gather. What cables and switcher you ordered?

?90 does seem a little high...

All the official ones, ?60 on UPS delivery from play-asia for PS2, Xbox, switch box and optical cable and ?30 on NSCI delivered for the Gamecube component one which was out of stock everywhere else. I want them all immedietely and couldnt be bothered waiting any longer so just went for it!

With a HDMI cable, are there any particular brands that i should go for when buying? Like, any THQ certified ones, or are they all good?

Yeah, I ordered the splitter from a member on here for ?10, the GC component for about ?20, the PS2 is about ?15 from play-asia, so about ?45 for all those. I guess it would cost ?90 with the xbox cable and UPS plus an optical cable.

Yeah, Its alot of money unfortunately. Especially to buy all at once but I plan on really getting stuck into these three machine the next month before X360 comes and finish all the games I havent done this year so I need all the cables now!

But all will be well when I see this tv in the flesh!!

In short lengths, I wouldn't pay any more than ?30 tops. The difference between brands with HDMI/DVI cables becomes greater at longer lengths.

Go as short as you can with cables like this, really.

So go as short as possible. 1m is fine? Thanks man!

And that is very cheap. The cheapest HDMI cable in Australia i have seen was $300 Aud, which is 126 Pounds. And what brand is the best?

                        Comment

If you want the 'best', you'll be paying through the nose, and the difference won't really be visible at those lengths anyway.

A decent happy medium is a brand like Profigold.

I use the cheapass throwaway cable I got with my Oppo player, and it's perfect... but at 0.5m, it should be.

Things start to matter with cables which are mad 10m long, where consistance in the cable quality and shielding more open to being variable.

Degredation of singal should be almost 0 anyway with a pureky digital format, which I presume HDMI is

That's what most people assume. But even a digital signal is prone to signal degradation, just of a different kind. More prone, arguably, as it just takes simple corruption of the sent data to mess things up, which is certainly likely when sending data over longer distances using below-par, poorly shielded cables.

It was mentioned earlier that the samsung is a good value TV, but with a bit more money you could get a better screen...any examples?
