Basically I think I can persuade the wife to spend ?500 of our savings on a new tv. I would like a 32" one, but a 26" would be fine I guess.

So I have had a look around and saw this one on play

Is it any good? I now very little about what makes a good hdtv so any help is appreciated.
Unfortunately, I have no idea on that telly at all but if you can stretch your budget then i'd recommend the Toshiba 32WLT66 which can be found for ?640.

I know its quite a bit over budget but your guaranteed to be getting a decent set...

yup Bravia W - when you initially switch it to 1920 x 1080 it will show the image and then a little note briefly appears (around 5 - 10 secs) and kindly asks you to change the resolution.

when it dissapears - it still remains @ 1920 x 1080 with no fuss

Bit more than I can justify right now, but sometime next year that's a real consideration. I always said I wouldn't touch a 1080p TV unless I could run my PC in 1920x1080 on the thing.
Can you check if it accepts 1080p over Component from a 360?

You do realise you aren't gaining anything from setting the 360 to that resolution , you'll be losing quality. Unless you are watching HD-DVDs of course

i'll try and source a component lead, although I cant do it at the mo - my Jap machine only came with a D-Terminal.... but if it helps one forumite and I ordered from 121 Electricals:

yup - I was just testing to see if it accepted it... it'll be yo-yoing between 720p and 1080p for gaming and HD-DVD

I thought the 360 would only do 1080p over VGA and 1080i over component?

1080p for games, 1080i for HD-DVD over Component.

The 40W2000 technically should only do 1080p over HDMI, but for some unknown reason it works for the 360 over VGA comes up saying unsupported resolution but it is actually 1080p just press menu and that message goes away.

It won't do 1080p over component. PC wise, to get 1920x1080 you need to use a dvi-hdmi lead.

Does it map it 1:1? Not all screens do that on HDMI.

support with component / HDMI out there. Just to have a look.
There are no budget projectors that do 1080p and I doubt there will be for a number of years.

I don't know how limited your budget is, but I've got a 480p native, 2500:1 static contrast Toshiba projector that looks stunning. Looking to sell it for about ?400. Will do 720p and 1080i too, just not natively.

Spatial101 asked me for some ingame shots of Gears via PM, so I thought I'd just post them up here for anyone interested in the WLT68's.

Unfortunately I must have changed some settings on my camera without realising, and most of the pictures I took came out dark or blurred. These were the best ones, but most still have moir? on them from not getting the focus right. (vertical banding / grainy look)

I could have probably fixed them up a bit in Photoshop, but I didn't want to do any editing. Other than a resize, they're straight out of the camera.

Unfortunately the moir? gives the impression of more aliasing / shows it up more, but I spent quite a while taking them, so I felt I should just post them anyway. If you let imageshack shrink them down, it's probably a lot more representative of how it really looks.

                                Note: Possible (minor imo) spoilers.
