tbh once you've installed custom firmware there's very little chance you'll want to go back. As with any kind of modification there's always a slim chance of bricking the console....but if you do a bit of reading up beforehand & carefully follow the step-by-step instructions in any installation guide it's pretty straightforward really.
I upgraded to the official one by accident. It might as well be bricked

Indeed. I have now flashed PSPs for nearly every kid in this village, and I haven't faced any real problems. But I must say that the most tutorials have been lil bit lacking, and will surely confuse someone who hasn't done flashing before.

PSP Hacks often has Idiot proof installers not long after the proper releases, I've used them for a while now and theyre great,I tried the proper way but I nearly messed it up ...

This is the problem I've found to be honest, for somebody who has been chipping/hacking consoles for years now they confused the hell out of me!!!

One of the problems with them is that they always seem to presume that you just know things which you may not. They often seem to have contradictory information in the different guides which isn't exactly reassuring due to the very slight chance of you killing your PSP because somebody hasn't made it clear what they mean.

Mods, are we able to post a guide for something like this on here? I can't find anything in the rules which says we can't but it's obviously on very sensitive ground due to the potential for people to abuse it.

If the Mods say it's OK then maybe we should have a separate thread written by somebody on here we could trust and knows exactly what they are doing? Maybe a sticky like like the sticky PSN international accounts guide I did a while back?

When you download PS1 games from different regions Stores on the PS3 the games are locked to the user that downloaded them. When you transfer games to the PSP the PSP is then locked to the same user. Because of this if you have games from more than one region on the PSP you have re register the PSP to the PS3 each time you change between game regions.

Does anybody know if you can play all regions PS1 games on the PSP with the custom firmware without re registering it to the game owning user?

                  EDIT:
Mods, are we able to post the guide on NTSC-UK for the custom firmware?

I don't think so, because custom firmwares also allows piracy. This is also why my "HDLoader without modchip on PS2" tutorial was declined just yesterday.

Not 100% sure I've understood the question.....are you asking if it's possible to have PS1 games bought from different PSN stores on your PSP at the same time and be able to switch between them without reconnecting to your PS3 to get the relevent license info each time?

If you are then the answer is 'yes' (at least with the latest M33 firmware). I currently have Wipeout & SOTN (US) & Mr Driller (HK) on my PSP and they all launch fine

Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick though!

Just got my PSP Slim today and I'm looking to install M33 on it.

                            Has anybody done this yet?

I'm after a BIG favour too...does anybody have a Pandora's Battery that they would be willing to borrow me for a couple of days so I can do it?

I'm happy to pay for the the favour!

You can change back from a pandora battery to a regular one. No need to borrow one.
                              Kept you waiting, huh?

From what I've read it needs to be one of the old batteries and it needs to be converted in the old model PSP.

I traded mine in for the slim so don't have that option unfortunately.
