Tried out Albert Odyssey last night and it's so so. I'm loving the old school feel, with lovely graphics and cheesy dialogue, but the battles are pretty bad. I mean the load times in between each action are very long, i've only done a few battles and i'm already cringing every time another random encounter starts, it usually takes a while before I get to that point with an RPG. Is it worth carrying on with it - does it improve once you get a few more characters?

I'm not a keen lover of working designs translations I must admit however.
Magic Knight Rayearth is the better game, but it has it's momments, there are a couple of novel side quests and bonuses in the game as you go on. It worth playing through at least once.

Oh yeah, Albert Odyssey was not that good as I recall, I only played for an hour or so. Random battles suck, period. (Maybe that's why I really don't like FF series .) I just can't but agree with you, MKR was far better, I loved every second of it, plus it's one of the few RPG's I finished. Loved the in-game switching system and not to forget it had stickerpage in the booklet and even is published in 3 different versions (I had the Umi version). They even did a really good dub of the intro score, as the original was copyrighted. "A boooold daring dream, in my heaaaart..."
I think I only struggled briefly in the stage where the house was on fire and you had to rescue some folks. Mystaria was the other RPG I really liked a lot, it reminds me of Shining force, as it was turn based and had a lot of different characters to choose from.Last edited by Shinebi; 22-09-2006, 06:59.

I loved Magical Knight Rayearth. I played the japanese version first and loved every minute of it. Then came the US version. God, how I cringed whenever they spoke!
Albert Odyssey was nice (stunning music score) but the loading times and number of random battles did my head in, even onthe USA version . I thought SOA was bad , it's nothing to this

I'll try and force my way through Albert Odyssey and hope it improves and then give MKR a go. I'm a bit disapointed with it, compared to some of WD's other work with Lunar and the Arc collection, it's pretty disapointing.
Pretty shocked to hear that random encounters were even worse in the JAP version, poor sods!

I think so, the reciver bit that plugs into the controller ports appears to slot into both ports at once, which would rule out any two player games if they didnt come in pairs. Havnt really seen a very clear picture of how it all works though. Id be intrested to hear how you get on with your pads fireproofradiator.Last edited by SuperDanX; 26-09-2006, 09:14.
