I've just picked the WtWTA Blu-Ray. Oh well.

I watched Maniac Cop last night. Hasn't aged too badly I thought. And I was surprised to see how many well know faces are in it. It's interesting to see Bruce Campbell in a straight role. He's a better actor than you would give him credit for and he probably should have been a bigger star with his good looks and charisma.

I watched Bad Lieutenant the other night. Nicolas Cage was gold, brilliant. Reminded me of the Coens a bit.

^I really wanna see that, Herzog and Cage sounds like a genius combination!

Regrettably, I have to say I lounged this afternoon away watching ****e I'd 'taped' on the Sky+ box. After the slightly disappointing Dawkins faith school documentary from the other night, I decided to watch Tobe Hooper's Mortuary, which has been doing the rounds on The Horror Channel recently. Basically, it's a sack of cack and nobody reading this should bother watching it. It's got a few non-Romero style 'zombies' in it, virtually no gore or swearing, many moments with female characters annoyingly screaming their heads off and lots of terrible CGI effects (one in particular, a hand through the gay character's chest, is unbelievably cheap-looking and the Sarlacc-type 'pit' at the end could've been from a cutscene in the first Resident Evil, though this film is nearly ten years younger than that game!) Anyway, salt is what kills the zombos and the mysterious 'black **** pit creature' and there's a 'shock' ending whereby said 'black **** pit creature' is not actually dead after all. Gack, to think Tobe Hooper once made The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, now it seems his name is a hallmark for ****e like this.

I will joing you in praying for a dvd release. A double pack would be awesome.

I always enjoy Maniac Cop - it's a decent film. I've also got the two sequels and they're worth having. In #3 they show Maniac Cop's face a lot, which spoils things a bit, because the mask they use looks really stupid. All three are fun, though, with #1 being the best. I heard it's coming out on BD. The UK dvd is bad quality, with the U.S. dvd being much better.

Yeah, Herzog is a great director. I look forward to watching that film, as I also like Cage.

I'll definitely avoid Mortuary - it sounds really poor.

2 films in the last few days for me ...

Perfume: Story of a murderer - not too bad at all. I thought the whole premise was a tad too far and a bit of a strange ending.

Valhalla Rising - Bought on the recommendation of Kim Newman (Empire) -WTF! is going on!? Some brutality mixed with some strange visions of which most of it (if not all) went over my head. Lead actor obviosuly did'nt have to strect his vocal skills either (don't what to add any spoilers so I'll leave that there hanging!).

I liked Valhalla Rising, but talk about totally misleading. Have you seen the BR case? Makes it look like some kind of 300 film, with hundreds of soldiers. LOL.

Not what I was expecting at all, but really, really enjoyed it. Thought provoking. Took me ages to realise they weren't Scottish and were meant to be "proper" vikings - all the [speaking] actors were Scottish or British!

Ok, finally got round to watching Dark City. I guess my friends were right after all. The Matrix trilogy completely ripped this off man! Not a bad film but I wish I saw it before the Warchowskis changed my life.

You should watch Ghost in the Shell. One of the scenes in The Matrix is actually a shot for shot remake of one in GITS

Its the same on the DVD cover too, I noticed after watching it.

On reflection, its not a film for me.

Potential spoiler for people who have not watched it ...

What was the continent they landed on, was it (or would have become), the US? My line of thinking is the people they come across are a pre-cursor to indians?

Yeah. I had to Wiki it afterwards to be sure though, lol.

Which probably makes more sense, because I honestly thought the guy was a viking lost in Scotland until I read the wiki as well. Thinking it was Scotland may not sound like it makes much sense, but they had Scottish accents, and it looked like it was shot in Scotland.

                      LOL

I'm actually looking forward to watching it again. Was like a Terrence Malick film, and knowing that going into it next time I'd hope to enjoy it even more

Seen it as well as the remake, at least that was one of the "cool" homage bits in the Matrix. After watching Dark City I realise the Warchowskis need to come up with something of their own if they're going to be remembered as ground breaking directors.

Can someone tell me which is the scene the Matrix does homage to GITS?

Without trying to sound pedantic, but surely sailing from Scotland to the (I'm presuming East Coast) in a vessel that size powered by the wind would have took an eternity, weeks or perhaps months? (Not that I'm nautical minded!)

That's why it made no sense to me! I'm guessing it's meant to Scandanavia, maybe Iceland, they start off? Still doesn't help the journey though.

They were trying to head east but ended up drifting hopelessly west for, well it would take a month wouldn't it? More?

                              It's all very surreal.

Ah! well, perhaps I'm reading to much into it, and should rather take it as face value.

Glad you liked it, sounds like you did anyway!

Any ideas of the visions 1 eye had? Thats what threw me the most tbh!

As an aside, it was approx 7 mins before any diaologue took place, only just under half of the time compared to 'There will be Blood', which is around 15 mins, if memory serves me correct.

Needless trivia that I remember for some bizarre reason!
