Nice to see you back posting, please bring back the Vanilla Ice L/R alternating avatar, it was was rockin'.
My alternating Vanilla Ice head.. I had forgotten about that. Vanilla Ice has only ever sung one good tune( Ice Ice Baby ) - but what a great tune it is. I will try to remember how I made that old avatar. Cheers!

In other news I re watched 'The Burning' . Nobody does effects better than Savini, even to this day . 80 were just the best for films and music

That was pretty good,
though he pegs it right at the end
, guy should be in more actioners now he seems to have quit the music!

^Yeah, I watched it during the week when I was working nights, it really is good, much better than I remember it being.
Just watched Kick-Ass, really liked it though didn't really find it that funny, more a really good nerdy superhero flick in the vein of Spiderman 1 (but with added gore and sweariness). Saddest bit was the
death of Big Daddy
, he was a great character, the
timber factory massacre
was amazingly badass, Schwarzenegger in his prime would've been proud. One odd thing I noticed, the film was co-written by Jane Goldman, Jonathan Ross's wife, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse bears an alarming resemblance to the young J.R. Worst bit was the inclusion of Dexter Fletcher and Jason Flemyng as mob goons, they didn't really gel and seemed well out of place, though I guess they were included as a Lock, Stock... reference, given the film's heritage.
Anyway, here's hoping for a (probably inevitable) sequel.

I have a ton of 80s dvds, mostly made up of stuff most people wouldn't bother with - sort of cult titles. Some of them are easy to find and cheap , but others aren't so cheap and easy to get hold of.
I have a film called 'The Vindicator' which is very much like Robocop, but released a year before in 1986. I found out that the only dvd version is available in Brazil, and called the stupid name "ROBOMAN"... It cost me ?15 inc p&p, but was worth it.. as it's the sort of 80s film I enjoy.
When I bought 'Killer Clowns from Outer Space' .. I thought it would be rubbish, but it's such a well made, brilliant creation. It's amazing to think how good it is. It deserves far more recognition.
I need to buy 'The Burning' .. as I've never watched it, and people keep recommending it to me.
Yeah, the 80s was great for films and music. My appreciation for what people created back in the 80s, is even stronger these days. As much as you get a few truly great films these days, the 80s back catalogue is filled with classics from all genres. Even the cult, sort of b-movie stuff isn't irritating, and can be really well made with special qualities you don't find in the modern world.
I think writers and producers were less afraid to push their imaginations to the limits back then. These days.. creative people play safe too much, because they are afraid of failure. It's an attitude found in the film, games, and music industries. That's why so much creative output is generic and sterile. Of course, not all of it is, because some people are still full of passion and determination to see their dreams fulfilled.

There are quite a few VHS 80s cult classics that either haven't been released on DVD, or the transfers are rubbish. I think there is a demand for 80s b-movies, but for reasons unknown.. some of them don't get put on dvd.
There is hope, though, because 'Exterminators of the year 3000' is getting a U.S. release next month.Last edited by Leon Retro; 23-08-2010, 11:05.

It's not directly JL but I think you'll understand when you see it.

I watched a couple of bad recent ones at the weekend:
Where The Wild Things Are - what a load of toss and as loads of other people have said on here, that little kid in it was just begging for a slap.
The Road - I read half the book and hated it as it was so boring but decided to give the film a go because Viggo was in it. It was possibly even more boring than the book. I turned it off halfway through.
Then I decided to cheer myself up by watching Magnum Force. Still the best Dirty harry film IMO.Don't look at me, I'm irrelevant.
