You've got a point there, but even as a kid I'd go see Star Wars no matter how dark or gritty it was. I think Kasdan wants to put his own flare into it, meaning it'll be more like ESB and Abrams will use this opportunity to give it some fan service without extra fluff. A recent Hasbro toy events Star Wars schedule may have leaked what the recently confirmed third spin-off is about as it lines up with speculation of what the upcoming main films and spin-offs are said to be:
2014: Rebels
2015: Episode VII
2016: Boba Fett
2017: Episode VIII
2018: Solo
2019: Episode IX
2020: Red Five
If accurate it backs up word that Spin-off 1 focuses on Boba Fett and Spin-off 2 is about young Han Solo. The title of the third Spin-off would likely indicate an X-Wing Squadron focused film.Comment

Rumour is that JJ Abrams has convinced poster artist Drew Struzan to come out of retirement to create the posters for the next three main Star Wars entries just as he did for the previous six. Would not be surprised if Disney take the opportunity to get him to do Indy 5 at the same time.Comment

Visuals are rarely the problem with Abrams so I was expecting no less. One thing I really liked instantly about his first Star Trek movie was that they were clearly acting in actual sets and that made a big difference.
If these films have a half decent story, they'll show up the prequels even more especially when it comes to visuals. Eps 1-3 could end up being completely disowned eventually. We can only hope.Comment

If Disney wants to join the reboot circus Episodes I to III would be ideal. Cut out Jar Jar, hire good actors and get a better script to make Anakin's transition to the dark side more convincing.Comment
