I dismissed this when I first got it as not being my sort of thing. But I've had it in my cd player a lot over the last few days and it's really grown on me. 'Marble House' is gorgeous.
The Knife are superb and 'Silent Shout' is an excellent album. 'Marble House' is one of my favourites too, along with 'Forest Families' and 'We Share Our Mothers Health'.

'Deep Cuts' is pretty good too, with the original version of that 'Heartbeats' song popularised by Jose Gonzales.

I'm listening to Under Byen again. Love that band.

Looking forward downloading some of these tunes, some new artists here i'm very keen to be introduced to.

I'm always listening to my usual favourites:

      Damien Rice - I Remember , Blower's Daughter , 9 Crimes, Eskimo ,
      Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah,
Newton Faulkner - People Should Smile More , Uncomfortably Slow , Straight Towards the Sun ,
Porcupine Tree - Feel So Low , How is Your Life Today , Lazarus , HeartAttack in a Lay By ,

However... I recently stumbled upon two new artists I can't stop listening to!

Tom McRae and Bon Iver - certainly worth a look.

^^^That Bon Iver album is just lovely^^^.

My interest was only piqued recently, with it popping up in a lot of critics end of year lists, and truth be told, even if the story behind its making has been shamelessly spun by the record company, deep down, I want to believe it's true.

It's a great story - nursing a broken heart after breaking up with his girlfriend and splitting from his band, Justin Vernon retreated to a ramshackle log cabin in the woods, like the one in the Evil Dead, to confront his demons, armed only with a acoustic guitar and some basic recording equipment, and For Emma, Forever Ago was the product of those months spent in isolation.

Truly wonderful record, that gets better with every listen, but Lordy knows how he can follow it up.

Tom Mcrae is amazing, I've been selling him to people ever since his debut came out, he's also the best artist live I've seen. UNfortunately every one of this albums gets progressively worse from the debut, though each contains a nugget or two of heartfelt angst.

Its a crime that he never sold whilst David Gray, James Blunt and others stole his schtick and made it more paletable for the masses.

If you like his stuff check out the live torrent sites and try to get some of his concerts, there are some great FM and sounboard rips out there which take 3 min album trakcs and turn them into 9-10min acoustic epics.

I love Damo Rice too and would say the same for his stuff, the live bootlegs available are amazing as the emotion he puts into his performances is pretty intense.

Anybody in the mood for some 80s should get hold of Empire of the Sun's Walking on a Dream (a duo, one half is the bloke from the Sleepy Jackson). I got it on aussie import as its not our here for a while, hard to pin down as its an 80s sound with a modern twist for me, very catchy and big pop synth sounds.

Empire Of The Sun's profile including the latest music, albums, songs, music videos and more updates.

Ken Ishii's Alter Ego Flare - Reference to difference.

Really surprised by this album, its like something Mixmaster Morris might slip into his sets 3 or 4 hours in. Really good ambient. Held my attention for atleast 5 minutes.

I have compiled a fairly good playlist for some of my favourite, if common-ish, songs of 2008 - I'm happy with it.

                Mercy - Duffy
I Will Possess Your Heart - Death Cab for Cutie
                Mirrorball - Elbow
Falling Out of Reach - Guillemots
Dance Wiv Me - Dizzee Rascal
Blind - Hercules & Love Affair
                Wearing My Rolex - Wiley
Black and Gold - Sam Sparro
One Pure Thought - Hot Chip
Robots - Flights of the Conchords
Sex On Fire - Kings of Leon
                A&E - Goldfrapp

I've been listening to a lot of the new Gang Gang Dance record over the last few days. Probably my favourite album of last year. Should be amazing to see them live next month.

I picked that up a few years back for a couple of quid. It's nuts! Isn't there a song called the "mighty laser firing penis", or something like that?

*EDIT* A quick widipedia look confirms I wasn't far wrong:

Listening to Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam and Feels, in preparation for their show tonight.

Fiery Furnaces - Bitter Tea. I still feel this album got a bad press. It's great, backward vocals and all. 'Vietnamese Telephone Ministry' drags on a bit, but otherwise there isn't really a bad track.

Got Prince - Parade through the post this morning so will be tucking into that, it's been some time since I last heard it.

Been listening to and loving both Squarepusher's 'Number's Lucent EP' and the new one by Animal Collective. They're both great albums to work to.

Wondering actually if anyone could point out some standout albums by both of these? I only have the most recent by Animal Collective, and the last 3 by Squarepusher. Any suggestions most welcome!

I haven't listened to any of ACs pre-Sung Tongs material. Sung Tongs and Feels are my personal faves. Person Pitch by Panda Bear also deserved all the praise it got - I think I like it more than any of the albums they've released as a band, but it really depends on the mood.
