I picked up the CD yesterday- perhaps it's the simple arpeggios and the analogue instrumentation but it has that really 70s-influenced, sci-fi feel. On listening to it you really do get a strong impression of early Dredd and things like the Terran Trade Authority books, and it's really made me pine even more for an animated series. DNA Films and Alex Garland are thanked on the sleeve- I'm guessing that its for their support or permitting release of the album, but I'd be over the moon if some of the music made it into the new Dredd film, especially considering the fact that it's heavily influenced by the earlier version of the character.

The video for Club Tropicana is so awesomely cheesy.

Ahh the Foo Fighters...I used to listen to them a lot but slowly lost interest as they became more and more popular.
Have you heard the side project Grohl did called Probot? That was pretty sweet!

Probot is a good shout. Possibily the last thing that Ghrol did that I enjoyed. I like the first 2 Foo's albums but they seem to have got more bland as time has marched on. I went to see them on tour around four years back and it was an awful gig, with an awful crowd of beer throwing cretins. That was the final nail in the coffin for me.

Just watched some kind of monster, the metallica docu...which at 2h30m odd, was long but really rather excellent.

So listening to their st anger album today.

You are exactly the same as me then if the first 2 albums are your favourite as after that they got a bit too "safe for radio" and mainstream. They still have a few good tracks on the other albums but the ratio of that to blandness is shocking.

PaTaito - St Anger is the only Metallica album I haven't bought as I don't like the direction they took it. Can't wait to see what their new album this year is going to be like...knowing them the style could change wildly yet again! Did you get to listen to the recent EP "Beyond Magnetic"? I posted up a song off that a little while back called Rebel of Babylon...damn sweet track.

I think there's some great track on later Foos albums, personally. The first halves of There is Nothing Left to Lose, One by One and In Your Honour are jam-packed with anthems, but I started losing interest around Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, which is a pretty bland album. They also started playing the enormodome gigs and I was shocked at the price of Wembley and Milton Keynes Bowl tickets.

So by the time the latest album, Wasting Light, came out, I'd lost interest and didn't bother buying it. I think "White Limo" is a real ballsy track and I liked "Bridge Burning" when I heard it on the radio the other day, but I guess I've listened to them a bit too much and seen them a few too many times and I'm a little bored by them.

My other rocking friends won't hear a bad word about them, so it's nice to hear other people getting a little tired by them!
I still think Dave Grohl is one of the best frontmen currently performing though.

As for Metallica's St. Anger, I was really impressed that it was released with a DVD of the band playing the whole album live in their practice room and that was a brilliant idea and it's sad that they haven't done it since or other bands haven't done the same thing.
Can't wait to see them playing The Black Album at the Download Festival this year!

One of my fave bands, The Sword, have changed label and are working on a new album, but they've just released a single that they wrote for their first album, but never put lyrics to it. Head banging awesomeness! "Hammer of Heaven".

I've also been looking for other Stoner Metal bands and I was impressed with Lord 13 and their track "Wicked Thing". You can download all their albums from their website.

I'd have to say that anyone who has been a Foo's fan at any point is missing out if they don't give wasting light a listen, it's a brilliant album IMO.

(That Lord 13 track is excellent though)

I've been revisiting all my Soundgarden stuff the last week in anticipation of seeing them later in the year, still can't hear this without thinking of 3do road rash to this day. Awesomes.

When I was looking for that Soundgarden track on youtube I spotted this blast from the past. Spine tingling memories!
