I really enjoyed NHK, it was a refreshing series and its a shame its finished. It felt a bit open ended when it finished though, i guess it didn't have the cut and dried ending i wanted.

Other than that i'm just watching Death Note and going through some old stuff like Kimagure Orange Road.

It just makes it look all the more stupid how strongely they built up all Kiri backstory and the anime current dating moments for him to somehow fall out of love with a girl he's been mad for since they where kids(and already once turned down due to some stupid 'im not good enough' moment). More i think about the show more im annoyed and spot other things like the total lack of building up the side characters(something shuffle did ahellalot better), Tomoko got barely a look in after her 'introduction' episode and i thought it might have gone somewhere with the sickness thing, im pretty sure she was the little grey haired kid in the flashback of young Elis in hospital, but nothing happened and when they reveiled she was get heart surgery i didn't care.

      Possible canvas/shuffle spoilers

Far be it from me to stick up for Canvas2 but I think that's a bit of a poor comparison. For one thing the side characters in shuffle, of which there were only really a few as all the rest were at least in some way romantically linked to Rin, barely got any development. The newspaper girl, his rival dude with the glasses, the parents etc... got barely anything. I suppose it depends on the definition of side characters being used because I would term the girls who were at least in some way romantically linked to Rin to be main characters and not side characters. I suppose you could argue the case for Primula. The other characters in Canvas 2 never really were interested in him. It always seemed to be between Kiri and Elis at least and not the 4/5 way thing as with Shuffle. In that respect I would call them (Tomoko, Hagino etc..) side characters and they got their fair share of screen time. Seems like a bit of a non issue to me anyway. There's been countless animes where the same could be said like throwing in another example... Suzuka. But does it matter? Are the side characters that focal to what the anime was about? I don't think so. Sure it's nice when it does happen but meh.

Again it's probably how we are defining side characters that's causing this disagreement as other than that I pretty much agree. The ending let it down because there was no "proper" foreshadowing of what was to come and in personal terms the choice of Elis seemed wrong. However at least there was some proper tangible progress and finality to it unlike say in Shuffle where it's almost as things were at the start with now Primula showing more of an interest. I think I'm going to stop actually... the more I'm reminded of the two shows the more they start to drop in my eyes. Ah well hopefully the forthcoming shuffle series will rectifiy some complaints I had with that series (make the final arc a bad dream sequence please).

Black lagoon 24 - I think you covered the bits already. The whole arc was pretty damn good and the fight at the end was lovely.

I have to admit the ending bit made me laugh. I think that's the second time that Revy has acted all embarassed and both have come during this arc e.g. when she's caught playing with the kids in that little park. Seems Balalaika, Revy and the nun want a piece of Rock. That'd be worth seeing, a three way fight over him

Definitely hoping for more. There's some stuff they still haven't touched on like the fact that the nun is part of the CIA (IIRC). Would be cool to get some stuff on her if another series is in the pipeline. Really enjoyed the second season overall. Hard to pick which I liked more though so I won't bother. Hopefully some of the animations gets cleaned up for the DVDs as it wasn't quite as nice and consistent as that of the first season's stuff IMO.

Sky girls oba - eerrr well... there pretty loli looking 17 years olds nice bit of fluff to go with the excellent animations and clean art, don't think i could sit through a TV series of it if they every made one.

Shakugan no Ogata i mean Shana... special. Had me laughing all the way through, loved Glasses boy plan of letting the girls know about the possible peeking so they'll let there guard down , Yoshida boob fondling, and of course Ogata mistaking the boy for homo's. and the ending credits = LOL.

When does the filler in Naruto anime stop? I've stopped watching for about a year now and need to know when it's safe to return.

Lastest news is for the 17th feb for the start of Naruto:Hurricane Chronicles(aka Naruto post timeskip). But do we get Kakashi Gaiden before or after???

Will we even get it at all is another question. They could just leave it out and maybe animate it as an OVA special some time down the line.

                Hi guys!

At the risk of being annoying, i see you discussing several shows that are either finishing or quite far through their run. Are there any shows that are new/have only just started that in your opinion are worth checking out?

As an aside I have just finished watching Planetes. I was worried about what they would do with my favourite manga but I think they have done and excellent job expanding on the world of the Debris Section...

                  Genshiken is back!
not sure if its part of a new series or just an ova, its labeled as 13 ova. i thought they were just doing a couple of ova with the kujibiki balance dvd or something.
hopefully theres more to come really soon though, as it was excellent, very funny episode intoducing two new members. i need more already.

Shana OVA special - it was decent but I thought the itadaki no hecatetan special was funnier. The best bit for me had to be the running joke of Oga mistaking/dreaming about those two as romantically inclined. Listening to the OP/ED brought back memories. I'm going to have to grab the full versions of those songs. Looking forward to the movie too although apparently it's a retelling of Friagne's arc from the anime. I haven't really followed the news on it that much, it was just something I read.

Other stuff to look forward to: new ep of Kyou no Go no Ni has been announced, can't remember the date though, Ichigo mashimaro OVAs and the Genshiken OVAs of which the first has been subbed (though I know of a "better" version to come from the same guys that did the original series). I suppose for the time being it'll do and I can replace it with the other version later.

Kiba's been pretty decent just got to watch ep 39 now and I'm caught up but the last few episodes there's been loads happening.

edit: yeah there's only two more Genshiken OVAs I think. They're being bundled with the DVDs of the new Kujibiki series. There's 3 sets of the Kujibiki series planned and they come out monthly so the next one will be out in February and the last one March. Not too bad a wait all things considered.

As far as new stuff, not bothered to check up actual release dates yet, but for me 2007 will be about.

Bleach/Naruto returning to the manga story lines
                      Zero no Tsukaima 2
                      Shuffle '2'
                      Haruhi Suzumiya 2
                      Ikkitousen 2 (hey i liked the first >.> <.<)
                      Ichigo Masimaru/Genshiken/Class 2-5 ovas
                      Da Capo 2 (not 2nd season )

                      New shows
5 cm per second (looks really good http://www2.odn.ne.jp/~ccs50140/short/index.html )
                      Romeo x Juliet
Devil May Cry - very interested how this will turn out, seems the guys that did the excellent gungrave anime are handling it.

If you looking for stuff now, most of the new shows from last season are abut 10/12 eps in so shouldn't be hard to get.

Code Geass, Kanon(remake), Death Note, Soukou no Strain, Asatte no Houkou, D Grey Man and Busou Renkin all worth watching.

Yup, 2007 should be a good year for 2nd seasons or sequels to old series' (if your a fan of the first seasons/originals of course). To add to Tobal's list of 2007 shows I'm looking forward to:

                        Saiunkoku Monogatari 2nd season
Nodame Cantabile - should be starting soon
Sousei No Aquarion 2 - Loved the first season so this is a given
Bokurano - the bit of the manga I read was pretty cool
Lucky Star - Kyoto Animation's next show apparently about a bunch of female otakus. Based on a 4 panel manga which is basically slice of life/comedy. So it has all the right ingredients for me to enjoy it.
Seirei no Moribito - quite excited about this. Production I.G. show, looked great from the trailer. Of course it could all be **** but they managed to turn Blood+ round in the second half so I shall be hoping they get it all right this time round.

Plus some of the new BONES shows like Skull Man and Darker than black. Interestingly there's a fair few mecha shows on the horizon this year so 2007 may well be the year of the mecha. There was one I saw a trailer for which I believe is being produced by the guys behind Kamichu with similarly impressive looking animation called Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula . That's not mentioning the end of some current shows like Nana and Kanon. So there's fair bit to look forward to IMO.

I might have to check out Ikkitousen though I've heard bad stuff about it, the trailer for the new show was... interesting

Just seen the Genshiken OVA episode and it was awesome, funniest thing I've seen today, the 23 minutes or so flew past. Continuing my crappy comparisons, I thought it was miles better and funnier than the Shana OVA I watched. Really like the new characters that were introduced, especially Ogiue (sp?)

Loved the rivalry that formed between Ogiue and Ohno. One of my favourite scenes had to be the one where it was just the three girls in the club room Plus there was "Kucchi" filming her at that yaoi convention and then Saki's reaction to it, the second time he got beat down in the episode, Ohno laying a trap for Ogiue in the club room and almost catching her out, and at the end where she wants to jump out of the window again etc...

. Hopefully the next one's as good as this, as it was definitely worth the wait IMO. Fingers crossed for a full season of episodes after these OVAs.

Soukou no Strain is only up to episode 7. Though after it's amazing start it's levelling out now to what you'd originally expect of it.

What's putting you off the shows nearing their end? Is it that it's a lot to catch up on? Hard to find the first episodes? If you have a torrent client that can choose to skip or prioritise files the bulk downloads (such as eps 1-13) can be a better way to get earlier episodes. There's still a big list of full seasons I have on my "to-watch" list so I get a lot in bulk.

I'm not sure there's a specific start but what I've found to be the case is Spring seasons starts around March, Summer season starts around June, Fall season starts around September and the Winter season starts around December. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Heh. I thought I was the only one on these boards that liked it. Nice to know someone else enjoyed it too. There's definitely more fans out there just not on here. I thought it was starting soon (as in January some time) but I can't find mention of an air date for it. Might have been pushed back to spring or summer. In fact I'm not even sure it's a full season or an OVA I know there's more coming though.
