What's everyone going to be following this new season?

For me it's Tactics, chiefly because it's from the makers of Matantei Loki Ragnarok (one of my favourite series, which is in sore need of a second season) it also has some nice design and great seiyuu too.

As for Bleach, I'll give it a go, but the promo made it look a little dated (is the music really that 80's?) This season I'm determined to try as many new shows as possible, although how this will work with the big backlog of last season to catch up with I'm not sure

Just watched Gankutusou (Count of Monte Cristo) trailer, unbelievable. Animation by Gonzo (thankfully they are not doing the script) looks superb.

Saw bleach last night and thought it was excellent. Lovely animation and music (not too hot on the OP though).

Champloo 13 was better than I expected. What is going on with the show in Japan? does nobody watch it or something?

as far as i know, it was dropped from it original TV station(the one that shows the cut versions of Gantz and Girls Bravo) after episode 17 so im not sure what gonna happen, but a another stations picked it up but weather it starts from ep 18 or back at ep 1, who knows...

Just watched Bleach ep. 1, and it seems quite okay. Looks like the plot is not going to be something to write home about, but the animation and chara design are cool. The music, though, is sub-par IMO.

Finished off madlax, and hmmm... while that was really stupid ending (far to much self-thinking and forgiveness), pretty much like the whole second half of the show.


I understand how the story works and i quite like it with madlax being her impulse to live, and the little red girl being her will, but it just seems so wasted in amongst the bad character dialog and cheesy combat that brings it down, not showing any violence dulls the atmosphere and doesn?t get across the ?kind killer? stuff with a-team style shootouts with hundreds of bullets missing there target all the time, i also got really tired of the full name calling and constant flashbacks, it dulled the impact of any of the main characters dying. And Friday Monday is a terrible villian, if he didn't even know what he wanted so how in the freaking should we care about what that stupid freak wanted with the gate of era and truth.

Finally the first episode of Gankutsuou is out, I'm glad you noticed this one Newmiyamoto, I've been waiting ages for it!

The animation style is very bold, and quite hard to describe, it has lots of rich colours and plenty of shadow. It also has a very unique approach to shading, in that the patterning and textures are kind of static frames behind the cells, giving a kind of luminosity and motion to the costumes and backgrounds. The plot is influenced by the romantic and gothic schools of literature, with a dash of aestheticism as well. All which if in print would be amusing, but when applied to anime, it seems very fresh.

The first episode sets the scene nicely, but increases the tension slowly, which shows promise for its central themes of revenge and loss. The seiyuu play the roles very well and the score really compliments the overall richness of the animation.

I know that it may fall prey to the 1st episode syndrome that strikes down a lot of new animes (Champloo, Tenjo Tenge, Baku-Ten and Chrno Crusade) but I have hope for this one. Oh and the Ed animation is really quite dynamic, hinting at some cool action and even possible mecha sequences to come. Overall (as you can see) I'm very impressed

Woah! I've just finished eps 49 of Naruto and i'm hastely loading fifty up.
But my christ is this brill. The Preliminary matches have been very good, i can't wait to get to the main stage.


Rock lee and Gai Sensei crack me up. "This is modern attitude and pisses me off!!"

I wonder who'll win Gaara or Lee. Superb Fight so far!!

Beck is very good watch, best japanese impression of western accent ever , i've added it to my watch straight away list for this season..

also Gunbuster2 left me speechless, totally over the top giant robot/alien monster fighting with some totally insane girl inthe middle of it, i was laughing nearly all the way through, and as another gainax the animation is seemless. I never watched the original Gunbuster, is a Tv or OVA series and is it any good?, i'm quite tempted to get it on dvd.

Uta-Kata, not sure what to make of this, looks like a magic girl show so far, nothing brilliant, i'm tempted to get up to ep4 before deciding on giving it up.

Just Gundam Seed destiny, VJoe, school rumble and Gankutsuou to go.

The original Gunbuster is great. It starts off as a parody of giant robot anime and ends up as a sci-fi drama. It's a 6-episode OVA. There is a DVD release in this country. Sadly, it has a VHS-quality picture, hard subs and a couple of minor cuts, but it does have all 6 episodes and AFAIK is the only DVD version with English subs (there is still no US version). Despite the quality of the DVD, it's still definitely worth getting hold of

Like you I had been looking forward to this series for quite some time.Then recently i forgot all about it until I was reminded about it by one the A-E girls, but anyway back to the main point this series looks SOoooooooooo ublievably LUSH, super gorgeous.

DearS finished with an ending that basically says buy the manga.

Now onto the main point, BECK. As you may have seen I was editor on this series (I joined A-E only because they were doing series) and i have to say i am sorely dissapointed by the show, I know its only 1 ep in but the feel and production values as well as the scripting is all wrong. Basically I'd recommend reading the manga, but I'd also like peoples opinions of the manga after seeing the anime.... so forget what I said and just watch it and make up your own mind. Overall its still a REALLY good anime that does get a LOT better so keep watching.

Man this is such a fantastic time for my anime watching.My beloved DearS looks like its going to reach a interesting yet predictable chobits style ending (yet to watch ep12), and I fell in love with school rumble immediately. It smacks of azumanga daioh heavily at times. And we've got VJ and Gundam Seed Destiny airing soon.
AH, happy days.

Btw anyone seen the first ep of bleach yet? I was a fan of the original artwork in the Japanese manga so I'm hoping the style has been carried over to the anime. D/L'ing at the moment....

OMFG OMFG downloading gundam seed destiny 01. I'm fully expecting the subs to be appalling, but hey, who cares?

Btw just read the last few pages re: bleach etc. Its amazing how quickly this thread grows!
