You may know that I am a fan so I am biased, I admit, but he didn't manage back to back titles and very nearly a third without god given talent and a racing brain that his rivals (excluding MS) clearly lack. No advantage was needed I feel.

I get the feeling that Alonso's legacy is going to be very similar to that of Prost's, in that his driving credentials will be largely overlooked in favor of his ability to engineer an political advantage over his team-mates.

Going to enjoy watching Alonso and Hamilton competing from different teams next season. F1 is in a fab era right now.

Prost gets over looked, unfairly I feel, because he was up against Senna. AP would be the first to admit that AS had more raw speed and would take greater risks, but I think on balance it was too close to call between them. In '88, AP outscored AS and under today's system would have been champ. Then again, reliability cost AS the '89 title so it evens out. I think Joe Ramirez said something along the lines of, if the setup was perfect, AP was unbeatable where as AS could drive around niggles with the car and he was superior in that regard to AP.

I have no doubt that he has a massive amount of talent, which in many ways makes the way he acts all the more unbelievable. All I can presume is that he does not have as much confidence in his own ability as he should, and therefore feels he needs to manufacture himself an advantage within his team, and manufacture an unfair advantage for his team - and if that team does not willingly go along with all of that, attempt to force them to do it through black mail.

TBH until this year I was not a fan of Alonso, but certainly had no major issues with him. After the way he has behaved this year though, I fail to see why anyone would remain a fan.

Hey Ho each to there own though ! If he wins next year either a race or the championship and keeps his mouth shut, then maybe I'll start to slowly respect the guy again !

              Simmy,

I would add that all the greats do that and Fernando is no exception. They all try to create an environment that allows them to win at the expense of their lap dog. Senna vetoed Derrick Warwick many moons ago when at Lotus. When asked whether he felt bitterness, DW said no as AS did what he had to do for the benefit of his career. The best are bastards that's for sure.

              M. Schumacher wrote the book in this regard. Granted, his team mates were not at his level but still but it's telling that he wouldn't team up with a certain Finn last season for fear of being shaded by his speed, no doubt.

So, Heikki has supposedly got two offers on the table, and it is being reported that it is McLaren and Toyota. I wonder if the problems between Renault and McLaren will have some bearing on a possible Heikki McLaren drive. As far as I am aware, Briatore still manages Heikki.

I would imagine Trulli must be sweating a bit at the moment - He could suddenly find himself with no where to go.

I'm very interested to see how McLaren perform next year without Alonso, and vise versa how well Renault perform.

I think it would have been a very close battle and either could have come out on top, was strange (and sad) the way MS retired really.

I believe that MS would have beaten Kimi over the whole season but his outright speed would have been more than a match for the great one. It has ben suggested that it was the reason why as Luca committed to Kimi but Todt/Schu were forced into a corner. We may never know of course but MS did seem rather cool in terms of body language at Monza(?) '06.

That is brilliant! Sounds like something from a hidden camera show.

looks like a hell of a season up ahead

Renaults line up is quite exciting prospect,

                        As for Force india.

Sign up Klien and replace sutil for fisichella

Why the hell would they replace an up coming driver like Sutil with a spent force (pun intended) like Fisico?

To give fisi one last breath of fresh air

Yes but that won't help the team move forward. F1 is not a charity, adam. Times change and drivers have to face the fact that their career is over. Ralf and Fisico have reached that stage. DC and RB are next.

How many races does Ruebens have left until he gets the most races ever in F1 record? Wouldn't be surprised to see him replaced mid season after that has been achieved unless he is outperforming Button. So maybe Honda are a charity to some extent and that's where they are going wrong!
