Ok, today was too soon to go for another run. Only 50 mins, but I can't walk up stairs.....

      Quiet in this thread...

Got the same run down to 46 mins now. I took the GPS out (arm mounted running thing) and it's exactly 10k so have a fair bit to knock off that. I've been signed up to a 10k on Feb 7th.... Have my work cut out to be running fit by then.

Isn't 46 minutes for 10k decent? I never run so don't know really.

Still out of action with this ankle and now wrecked knees. Appointment with a specialist in a few weeks to hopefully get some scans and find out what is wrong with me. Really missing the cycling and playing squash now.

Haven't even been to the gym for about 3 weeks, totally lost interest as there's so much stuff I just can't do anymore, plus I was going at 7am which has kinda lost it's excitement now.

7.6 minutes per mile. I'd rather be down below 7 mins per mile for that distance and am feeling so slow. The cold doesn't help. Warmups are warm downs, so I just get going

              I'll keep hammering them.
Hehe, I was so surprised at how many people do that swinging thing. Really aren't doing themselves any favours.

I'm in this year for some weight-gain action. Muscle would be nice of course but any sort of gain would be good haha. I'm around 5'8 and only weigh just a few pounds over 8 stone. Managed to lose weight somehow last year which I can't really afford to be doing. A few comments from people have made me wanna sort myself out.
Will be paying the doctor a visit soon but can anyone give me some advice on what I should be doing. I can't imagine running will help me.

On a side note anyone know where I can get some accurate scales.

I'm visiting the Mrs. for Chinese New Year next month so I need to get my monster appetite back so I can try all the lovely food. The only way I can think of doing that is to get back to the gym and start lifting again.

I've joined a new gym with heavier weights (I'd almost grown out of the last place) and got myself a crap load of supplements again. I'm currently at 12st 4lb so I've not lost that much weight. After just one week of warm ups my form is coming back and I can see my shoulders again. I'll take a pic before I leave on the 8th.

I am now officially in this club. I have decided to run a half marathon this year, end of April/early May I think. I am healthy in that I cycle 20 miles a day to work and back, but don't do any other exercise. I have just eaten my poached eggs and soda bread toast breakfast and am going for my first run this morning. My friend who runs her own gym has told me this run is about going at a really steady speed and just seeing how long I can actually run for.

Any recommendations for good quality but cheapish running shoes? I want a decent pair but I'm not going to pay for branding.

I was going to ask the same thing, I am now back from my first run. I had to run in some sort of cross trainer/walking show thing, they were far too heavy.
I managed to run/jog for 33 minutes non-stop, so was quite pleased with myself as I felt like quiting after 10 and 20 minutes but managed to keep going. I am now going work out far I actually ran.

How much do you want to spend? You don't need to spend too much, but it's worthwhile getting something of reasonable quality.

I have Asics... er, something or other. They were about £70. I had them recommended from my local Sweatshop (Who can do some basic analysis on how you run and recommend shoes accordingly) and they've made a massive difference in terms of comfort when I run in comparison to the Puma pair I bought off the shelf prior to those.

My back is a little screwed at the moment, so I haven't had much opportunity to do anything. I hate it when I can't get to the gym.

Ideally I'd only be looking to spend 30-40 squiddly-poofs at most.

Get down to Sportsdirect.com mate. Tons of cheap sportswear there. I just bought two pairs of Nike footy trainers for 25-30 bats each. I don't play football but I think the outrageous colours go with jeans.

If your serious about jogging of any kind you need the right footware. The long term damage you can do to your joints and feet by not getting your running trainers right can be quite serious.

Go to a propper running shop and have your running gate measured, they can then advise you on what type of trainer is best for you. Bad news is your probably looking at over ?70, but, it's worth it trust me.
