    How far is it?

http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/....0/7090/43387/ No idea how much these are, but looks ideal. There are cheaper versions of the same model e.g. escape 1 to 4 or the more expensive escape disc.
How far is the commute? It'll change, but I reckon 7-8 mile roughly. Maybe a touch further but it could also be shorter.

Those Giant bikes look quite nice. Will need to get to a shop and look at them.

Is that 7 miles one way, or 7 miles there and back? I do a 20 mile round trip every day for work and I would never go back to getting the tube. I would invest in a decent road bike, don't even think of getting a mountain bike unless you are going to use if for it's proper purpose. I good bike does make a huge difference though. I suggest you spend a reasonable amount because it will pay for itself in next to no time.
Does your work take part in the cycle scheme thing? You can get a decent amount of money towards a bike if they do.

7 miles one way. It could be more, I'm an electrician so I can change building sites all around London, therefore it probably will change. I'm pretty much guaranteed not to be involved in any kind of scheme.

May have to just stick it on a credit card or something. Need to just get a bike before I talk myself out of it.

Will probably be a shorter commute for a while, I'll be back working at the Royal Free Hospital, thats near you isn't it Yorath?

If that is in Hampstead then yes that is very near me, I live towards Kentish Town, past Gospel Oak station. I would still say get a decent bike, those ones Charles linked to look decent enough, I upgraded after getting fed up of people zooming past me on Holloway Road. Also, if you are chaining your bike up outisde make sure you have a really good lock and make sure you don't have quick release wheels. I spent this afternoon carrying my wife's bike frame to shop to get new tyres, wheels and seat after someone stripped it while it was outside Finsbury Park Station.

Just finished a 5.09mi jog/run - that's the longest one i've done yet. Couch 2 10k actually said workout complete while I was still running and thought "**** it i'll keep going" heh

I love that feeling when you feel like you can run and run. I had the oppositte yesterday, planned an 8k run and had to stop after 4k. My legs were gone. I need to alter my running pattern as I am training for a triathlon and a half marathon, need to rest the legs a bit and get some longer runs in.

Last time I derail the thread, sorry.

Yorath's Mullet, last question. How long does it take you to do the 10 miles one way? I'm just trying to gauge the length of time it'll take me to get to and from central London.

As a little way to fit in, I'm currently about 14 1/2 stone so I need to lose some weight. Lets hope I can post in the near future with some updates of success.

Takes me about 45 minutes depending on traffic.

A friend of mine organised a race on Sunday for a few friends. 15 people did the event.

Format was choose your distance from 5k, 10k or 10miles. I chose 10k because I've been vaguely training for it. It was actually 10.2k.

We all had to submit an estimated time for a road 10k and then he adjusted the start times to factor in that it is all off road, some of it very muddy/swampy. So we all set off at different times with the theory being we'd all finish at 12o'clock!

It actually worked and coming up to the finish line I could see 8 or so people. It also allowed all our kids to be lined up at the finish cheering us on without having to wait around for ages, so they were chuffed.

I managed 46min which considering the formidable terrain and the heat (20&#176, the stiles and kissing gates and people and dogs and cows in the way, I was pretty pleased with.

In this month's Runners mag, it states that at 19°, you time is between 20 and 30 seconds slower per mile than at 16°.

Thats interesting, I hate running in the heat and def reckon i'm better at lower temps. Just now is perfect. Maybe thats why.

What Tri are you doing Yoraths?

I am meant to be running the one in Stratford upon Avon in 2 weeks time. However, I am also due to run the Stroud half marathon on the 24th October. I am beginning to think that I cannot train properly for both. The plan was to run the sprint distance, 400m swim, 20k cycle and 5k run. I am now thinking that the fun event would be easier to just turn up and do. 200m swim, 20k cycle and 2.5k run.
Today I cycled 5 laps of regents park and then ran one lap. The run was hard work but the cycle was a piece of cake as I was doing that with our lass who is also doing the triathlon. I left her behind when running though

After loads of deliberation I've got for a Trek 7.3 FX. Well I've decided I'm gonna get it.

Looking forward to getting properly fit for the first time since I was svelt 16 year old 10 years ago. I've tried quite a few bikes and that has been the most comfortable.

That is what I have! I also bought Katy a Trek this summer. I love my bike, thinking of getting some racing handle bars though.
