Does anyone know how to turn this off?

I've searched the menu's, searched the handbook and can't find anything. It's only when you've been asked to take some production photos of a play when you suddenly realise how loud it is.

        Any help appreciated.

Somebody should have told him that it isn't a camera phone or P&S!! Funny!

            That's not a lens, it's a bazooka!!

That poor noob, guess they were pretty embarrassed after getting the first answer to that post!

Yep he was a little, though got a little defensive as a site mod made sarcastic remark. I guess if you've never used a SLR before the noise can be a little strange

The funny thing is, people really like the shutter noise on my SLRs - they want to try taking a picture just to feel shutter action as they're used to it being an electronic noise in phones and P&S cameras. Always quite amused me, not interested in any other part of the camera just the fact it makes a genuine noise when taking a picture!

I tell them that my 30D has 8.2 million pixels on an APS-C and their P&S has the same across a sensor the size of my little finger nail which is why it cannot match my camera for noise at high ISOs.

Of course this is the reason why Canon's 5D and 1Ds pack so much punch due to their massive sensor surface to pixel ratio.
Yep, it's kind of daft that SLRs are around 8MP yet these ultracompacts with tiny sensors are gunning for 10MP at the moment.

I'm trying to choose between a Panasonic LX2 and a Fuji F3X - the Panasonic has a great range of features including full manual control, raw support, widescreen sensor, image stabilisation, widescreen recording, 28mm equivalent lens and a manual flash. The big 'but' is its poor ISO performance which Panasonic have made worse by going from an 8.5 sensor in the LX1 to the 10MP in the LX2, driven entirely by marketting. The F3x on the other hand has superb ISO performance for a compact but lacks many of the other features.

People have pointed out that I have the SLR for low light but then I saw the main recommendation for the LX2 being landscape shots which is not why I want a compact - the reason for picking one up is to have something discrete to take with me on nights out, most of my shots have been rubbish over the Christmas period as my friends aren't comfortable with me taking a large SLR out for social occasions.

Given the F30 is pretty cheap right now, I think I'll give it a go although it's a shame it doesn't have the 28mm lens or widescreen sensor.

Got to have something to fill those memory cards up with

I got a 2GB card from Play.com for ?13 at the weekend for my Exilim P&S ( turns out it's a Toshiba card ), and if you bung the camera on its lowest quality setting ( VGA Economy ) you can get 14,361 photos on it. On its highest setting it's still 452 ( 8MP Fine ).

Great if you want to document every minute of your day.

14,361 pics. That would keep you busy for a year or two.

Forgot to mention, nice close up pete!

I was quite safe on the platform. None of that dangerous jumping off stuff!!

I did have 3 shots of the blurry person, very weird he hardly existed on the first two pics!
