The 15mm fisheye is a odd lens to use. It was released for the EOS in the late 80's and the design hasn't changed at all. The focus is a little slow as it uses the AFD motor rather than USM. Still i've been manually focusing with it as i've found it much easier. Its very easy to get the odd finger/foot/arm in the shot with the 180° angle.

It's nice to see a shot work out as planned. I've done a few well planned shots in my film days.

Nice lens that 70-200 IS. Mines the none IS version though. Think your right (RJ) about the redundancy of the 17-40. I tend not to use mine anymore, mind you I haven't visited any great landscapes for a while.

The 17-40 is a great lens but I can't see myself using it if I bought a 24-105, so rather than selling it at a loss, I will pair it with the 70-200.

I think I am coming down with the famous red ring disease.

Aye, I know what you mean. That said though, the 15mm isn't an L. Mind you my 300mm IS will be (when I can fund it).

300mm IS! Assuming you mean the 2.8 version, well that is a lens to wait for, though you will probably need a crane to carry it due to all that glass. LOL

I'd need more like a 10/12mm on the crop body to get shots like yours though GT, doubt the 15 would be enough difference from the 18mm I already have.

The wide angle was the only reason I went for the 5D. I was fortunate enough to have a good month (money wise) around this time last year. I like wide angle shots so i priced up the cost of a 30D plus the EF10-22mm and there wasn't much in it (about £200 after discounts/cashbacks etc).

Nice shots you too, very impressive as always.

I'm also tempted by the 70-200 f4 IS, have used the non-IS version and it's very nice (unfortunately when I borrowed it I was very much set in my Macro ways, so didn't get the most out of it). I'm also tempted to get the 1-400 IS lens - that weird push-pull one, though I'd like to use one before buying.

I would try it first, Calumet will rent you one if you want to play! or do what i did and take your camera to jessops and try one there.
Some love it, some dont rate the quality despite its L status. Fredmiranda.com is a good source for reviews. It scores 9/10 so its got a lot of fans. I've had a go, but i didn't like the push/pull.

The push pull is odd on that lens. In regards to the 5D I am sure that its successor (or the next) will be my next body. I love the bright, full size viewfinder just not the price.............for now.

Still wont be long before the spring line up is announced.

I think my 30D will suffice for now but one day I intend to go FF. That's why I love Canon as they offer the choice.

What do you reckon they will announce then? A 6D, or perhaps a 40D as well. I have this feeling that 2007 will belong to Canon as they let their rivals take a chunk out of their armour last year, but the empire will strike back, me thinks.

Most likely a 40D and a 1D variant. The expensive 1D (about £4k) is nearly 30 months old and is the most likely replacement. Not too sure if the other 1D will be replaced. To be honest neither of them need a replacement, but market forces dictate.

If the 40D does come out I wouldn't expect anymore that 10mp and sensor cleaning tbh. Canon don't really want to produce a camera that effective dumps on their own models.

Difficult as they need to get a 10mp model out to compete with the Sony and Nikon offerings. Then no doubt sony/nikon will knock something out slightly higher. Plenty of odd rumours about, like the 24mp camera that' half the size of the 1D!!!

oh and to add, my 20d still does the job some 2 1/2 years going! I am looking for Canon to sort out their interface, their camera tech is great but really I am sick of the way I do things in my 20d for example changing "wind" mode or AF mode.

I have tried (too many times) a d200 and we are talking flick of switch not a button press and wheel change followed with a check to the LCD to see if you have done the correct change - the 1D is worse still.

These systems have stuck for about 20 years now - my EOS 1000 I got when I was 12 had essentially the same system - my EOS 100 used the same system - infact was easier. The 1 series have never changed and while ok and hi tech is just a pain to use - not to mention metering modes. This is truly one area where Nikon higher end cameras are brilliant. Try out a d200 or even heaven forbid a D2x/h - they are so well thought out.

Anyway - rant over. As long as canon stick with a button that changes ISO and drive mode and relies on a choice of 2 wheels to change one or the other I am not doing a thing - I am even holding off on some lenses as I am so tempted by a d200 with a 17-55 f2.8 matched with a 70-200 IS.

Sorry for the rant - here, this will cheer you all up!

                                What's so bad about that?
