Saw this digger by the road on my way back from the garage:

Particularly like the second one Marty - first one would have been great if he'd had his eyes open

      Hey Guys,

I bought a Canon 400D last summer, and thought I'd share a couple of my noobish photos! The first couple are from Rome, the other's just a garden flower. All taken with the kit lense.

Sorry about the thumbnails. I haven't sorted them on Flickr yet, and wasn't sure how else to get them up as full sizes.

          Liking that first shot Brannigan

Haha - there's some nice shots there composition wise but for the need of some HDR love, so much washed out sky

Thanks, it's near impossible to get a shot in Rome in August that isn't filled with people

Or a polarising filter would sort you right out.

I think it was the most attention he had got all day!

Love the policeman! Nice composition and he's got a great expression.

Got out at lunchtime today (lovely day) and came across a frog / toad.

Replaced the two images with some better processed ones.

My mate let me borrow his Olympus E-300 SLR camera, quite cool, never used a proper camera like this before so it's nice to get to grips with it.

I'll post any decent pictures I get for constructive criticism!

Cheers Winky, still got loads left to process but I'm kinda bored of looking at them
Great shots by all though, I love this thread!

Wow Ish, those frog shots are stunning. I really would love to get good at photography. Whats the best bet for someone new buying a new camera, could I get something decent for around £200 as I might look into getting one in the summer.

You might be able to get a 2nd hand DSLR for that money, although it appears to have sold now - Park Cameras were selling Canon 10Ds for £130 ( I have one and although old and a little slow they take decent shots ). You're going to struggle to find a new DSLR for that money though. Might be worth taking a look a Camera Exchange too.

There are plenty of point and shoot cameras for that money, the Canon Powershots, Fuji FD range, Casio Exilims and Nikon Coolpics are all going to give you good shots, but if you want to get into the DSLR market, best saving a little extra and going for the Nikon D40 or similarly priced Canon. I use all manner of different cameras and all of them can produce decent images, even the one on my phone.

SLR ownership can get expensive mind, you start finding yourself saying, I need another lens, or a nice new tripod, or an external flash

Now that I can finally bear to take the Tamron off the camera I've started pushing myself to use the 70-200 f4L again. In many ways I think that shooting long is harder than shooting wide, not sure I've mastered it quite yet though:

                                Also with the f4L:
