Love the first two Garf, and your estuary shot is great Spags.

Not been round much lately due to illness - but finally sorted now so starting to get out and about again.

Took a couple of photos of a spider on a giant web and some shots at the rugby yesterday.

Bit quiet here of late? Anyway, here's some of my shots of Athlete's support band, Tape The Radio, from last Thursdays gig (Athlete pics still to come):

      There's some others here

Yep, that's a pretty cool shot Dan - I don't really 'get' gig photography if I'm honest, but appreciate that it's a tricky thing to master.

That aside, your shot is great - really like the expression you've caught, and the PP you've done is very nice as well.

Thanks Garf - I think I'm getting better at B&W conversions, so for you to say nice things about my PPing makes it all worth while

What do you mean by you don't "get" gig photography though? Do you not like it, not understand why we do it or something else entirely? Just curious...

Here's where I totally fail to explain myself...

It's not that I don't like it, and I totally understand why you & others do it, but I find that it doesn't 'move' me or evoke emotions/feelings etc in the same way that other types of photos can do.

If anything, it's most likely a failing on my part, as I've never really been to many gigs in the past, so maybe I don't 'feel' much for it, as I can't relate to what is being photographed - maybe..

That said, it's most definitely not any criticism on your part, as I've seen other examples elsewhere, and felt (not felt?) the same.

The fact that I made a comment of how good that shot of yours was might be the start of me appreciating this type of stuff, so could be good news...

I'm in the same boat as you Garf, however I have been to many, many gigs in my time. The experience of seeing a live band is very hard to portray through a still silent image.

I kinda see where you are both coming from and Garf, I am glad that you are beginning to appreciate this particualr niche. And Spags, I think a well captured moment can envoke my emotions and feelings and perhaps become iconic:

To name (show) a few! (I didn't take all these by the way!)

Some great pics and moments there Dan, I think for me gig photography tends to come off more surreal than anything else, I see a performer playing a guitar, mouth open but I will never know what song is being performed at that moment and often I don't even know who the band is - often it feels more like looking at somebody making a funny face with some nice lighting behind them. I am teh philistine!!

That said, I think you capture the emotion of your subjects very nicely in your gig pics, what every they are singing about they at least are certainly feeling it!!

Yeah, nice shots Dan. Probably the best thing you've posted, tbh.

So I've been doing some photography at the cinema I sometimes part-time at. We had a few semi-famous people in recently, like the poet Fleur Adcock:

and the Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia:

                                Fun fun!

Has anyone looked at the 5D MKII? Kinda sexy, huh?
