I'm really not a fan of Aperture. I found the floating window-based editing really invasive and irritating. I know some people are fans though.

Bear in mind that Lightroom and Aperture are only really replacements for Camera Raw - there's some basic localised editing in the latest version, but it's nowhere near as powerful as the full version of Photoshop.

I'd recommend trying out both trial versions if you're interested. Personally, I could live without Lightroom, but I choose not to

Decided to try my hand at some black and white conversion. Took the following photo whilst I was in an izakaya in Shinjuku. Not enough texture to fully utilise the lack of colour, but I do like how it's dramatically changed in mood.

Garf - love the one of the kids! It looks well 70's

Taka - nice conversion mate, wonderful DOF!

Was a bit busy with the camera this weekend, here's some portraits of friends:

I think I like this the best, especially due to the sign on the left saying what it does (!):

And then here's some shots of a rockin' girl band called Vier that I photographed on Friday:

The girls loved the shots, as did I more here

I'm quite pleased with my b+w conversions these days. All the above b+w shots were converted, and I'd love to know what you guys think of them, thanks

Right, these are my shots of the band Zipperface, also from last Friday. They were the headline band who last time had the singer dressed as the scary clown! They're mostly of their singer as I couldn't get shots of the rest of the band due to the venue being quite busy. Can you guess the theme for this show?

          And finally, Sid Vicious?:

Hope you like them - feedback is appreciated. There's a few more of this set here.

Still in Egypt but as I'm in an Internet cafe I thought I'd quickly drop by and say:

This place is a photographers paradise!!

Hopefully I've got some good shots - its quite challenging as I'm constantly on the move. Been taking about 300 - 400 a day. The 50mm 1.4 prime was a great buy - its been perfect for evening and night working with the monopod. And the depth of field at 1.4 is absolutely perfect for portraits.

                          Cheers Dan..

I normally do one every year, but this is the first year I've had a tripod and been able to take a decent photo of it - previous years pictures are normally blurry efforts..

Love how you've used a candle outside to show what's what, that's a sweet touch. Have you tried the same shot but with the light source out of frame? That'd be cool too but hard to pull off I think.

I've been sitting on my holiday shots a bit too much I think so here's the first (apart from the ones of the MiTo):

I wanted to try it with that Poladroid thing mentioned by you Garf but it's mac only Thought it would have looked good.

Thanks - did try some other angles etc, but they didn't come out that well.

Also, I still haven't really figured out the best settings for low light stuff - think I need a fast prime..

Really like the jetty shot - especially the sun burst coming in on the left. I think the Poladroid thing is going to be released for Windows sometime in November.

It has been a while since I 'contributed' - ha ha(!) - but as it is a rainy Sunday afternoon, I thought I'd create a photo wall for the V Festival; it was a good way to pass the time.

                                V Festival Photowall

                                Good times.
