Funnily enough, I was watching Doves on BBC Three coverage of T in the Park last night, and was saying how cool his guitar was (we're thinking of getting my eldest lad his first electric guitar as he is doing well with his acoustic).

Like the B&W Twang shot as well.

What is cool is that you've caught a great reflection of what looks like the crowd in the SFA shot.

It's funny how a lot of these bands seem to have vanished from the 'hit parade' but they seem to be doing well on the festival circuit.
Thanks for the nice comments Garf Is this the Doves guitar you mean:

That looks to me like a Gibson Epiphone semi, and the real mcCoy can be expensive! I can heartily recommend something like this if your son is looking to move to an electric guitar set-up. Although saying that, I've just seen this, so it's not that bad actually!

Yeah, I really like the Twang and SFA shots, especially the latter for the same reason that you mentioned!

I also really like your black and white photos. As always you use the available light perfectly and the deep blacks in those photos is brilliant.
Wow, thanks Malc, I'm very grateful for your nice comments too, especially the ones about my b+w shots. I really try hard to get those blacks as deep as possible, so it's nice to see my efforts don't go unnoticed. I think switching to shooting only in RAW format in the last couple of months has really steered me towards better results

Loving the love in this amazing thread. It has really helped me so much in the last 2 years or so

It was the lead singers guitar (as in your pic) - looks like an old Fender - not suitable for my lad, but cool nonetheless !

That first one looks ideal though, and probably about how much we want to spend - cheers

Anyway, sorry for going OT - back to the photos !!

        This one?

That is an old Fender as you say, but it's a bass guitar, just so ya know!

But that starter pack I linked to is ideal for your boy I imagine

But, as you say, back to the photos peeps!

Nice shots guys. Colour me jealous.

i was meant to go to an airshow on the weekend. Alas, it was rained off on saturday and my wife was working on sunday, leaving me at home with no means of transport.

So i took I had a look at what was around me and got a shot of a water Lilly in my garden pond and a picture of my cat Molly.

Herb, I like those two shots a lot, very nice work indeed! Lovely DOF in the cat shot, and that lily photo is so sharp!

Gutted! Got an email this Monday offering me a photo pass to Lovebox Weekender in London this weekend. I had emailed them back in mid-June to ask, and had presumed I hadn't got in, and so we have plans for this weekend already (plans that unfortunately can't be altered)

Do you know who is headlining the Saturday night? Only bloody Duran Duran and N*E*R*D*! So gutted, I just wish they had got back to me sooner

              I'll take it!
That sucks, but there's always next time.

Herb, the cat photo's really nice. I like the square format, clean composition and relaxed lighting.

Would you? That's kind of you! I'll PM you my contacts email address...

Well I hope so, but wifey and I have a +1 entering our life in October () so I will have limited free time next year. Although, I do plan to make the effort to still get out there and do the festivals and try to make a name for myself perhaps.

Cool! I just found one of my (official) Big Chill 2008 photos on the Eastnor Castle website Mines the second shot down, the one of Roisin Murphy.

My camera broke was sent away to be fixed only to return with a smudge on the screen. It was then sent back to canon as a re-repair and was promised to be fixed before today as i'm going on holiday on sunday to Greece.

It's not fixed. No flipping camera for me whilst i'm on holiday >_<

                    Edited profanity, rant over.

A little experiement with an HDR shot

                      Comment

Good lord, EB, what a weird bunch. In my opinion, the first two are over-processed, the third is under-processed, the HDR shot would work with a touch less contrast, the fifth one is a tad boring and the last one's an absolute killer!

I think it would be worth getting that second one right, it looks like a nice shot. Perhaps try dropping the sky down a touch, reducing the fill light a little bit, and upping the overall exposure if it seems too dark (though it looks okay to me). If the sky gets totally blown out, reprocess it a stop lower, layer it over the other one and very gently paint the sky in.

                          Thanks for the feedback.

I really liked the horse one but I just can't get it looking quite how I want it.
I'll have another go with them all later.
I've been going through about 400 shots I took on Holiday so none have really had a great deal of attention

Good stuff HaHa - especially like the parasol/deckchairs.

Few from the weekend - quite a varied selection:
