I went in to Yamaguchi today with a friend who's into photography. A good chance to take some photos. I ended up taking 226 photos. Here's a few that I kept.

I like these 2, the composition on the top one is great.

The bottom image had to be slightly altered in Adobe Lightroom but I'm pretty sure the top one wasn't edited apart from a bit of cropping.

I took this on my travels in south america last year (this was in Bogata, Columbia). It was the first pic i took on my travels and remained my favorit. This was on a cheap finepix bridge camera.

This i took on my recently deceased canon g9 (loved that camera), hence why i now have a fujifilm x10.

Yay a photo, nice candid shot - is that a shoulder on the right? I might have chopped that out myself, in fact portrait cropping for the girl might make it a lot stronger composition wise.

Eye that was a walker by in the shot, it was a lucky shot in truth, she was about 100m away with a large crowd in between me and the shot so i counted myself lucky i got one at all. That was the one time the stupidly large zoom on my old bridge camera came in handy.

Nice edit though, really brings her out.

Street shooting can be fun, there's a lot of skill in it. Trying not to get noticed so you can grab the natural shots. As soon as people spot the camera it changes the dynamic. It's a good grab nonetheless.

Got my larger OO Gauge figures now, still need to play about with composition, but they are definitely more detailed and easier to work with:

Looks like one the Cray twins (in that classic Bailey portrait). I like the idea, well executed (excuse the pun!)

Thanks GT, he has got a rather odd face. I've tried a few different things on a similar theme

None are really grabbing me at the moment though.

So what were you aiming for in this shot? The figure or the fish tank or something else entirely?

Edit added because EB thinks I'm being snobbish which I'm not.

I'm asking because there doesn't seem to be a focal point to the shot - Photography can be very much a personal thing, but there are a number of "rules" to photography that work. I say in quotes because the rules are really only a guide, but they work much of the time even though they can be broken.

You can take anything I say with a pinch of salt because I certainly don't proclaim myself a professional (although I am an award winning photographer ) - but you posted a pic and I'm simply enquiring about it. If you don't want me to comment on any of your pics I'll refrain in future

that's a pretty nice photo you have right there. So gloomy yet interesting. Was there much post-production work done on it?

I was just testing the low light capability of the camera really and the mannequin just happend to be there.

Fair enough - but there is a shot in there waiting to break out, though I suspect the camera exposed for the fish tank so it's probably not that much of a low light test

Been going through some memory cards I hadn't processed, came across quite a lot of shots but this one spoke to me.

The above photo was a rescue job, but it probably still doesn't work that well.

This is from a quite noisy at ISO 1600 Fujifilm S2 Pro. It's big, bulky and quirky, but I quite like using it.
